I have DLINK DGL-4100 and an linksys access point. I have WRTP54G and want to use it as a second access point. I am confused with what settings to change on the WRTP54G so that it doesn't give out ips, but just act's like an access point. I am looking to use the wireless part of this router to cover dead area in my home. I dont want to purchase another access point, since they currently are being updated. This is just an extra Vonage adapter i have.

On the WRTP54G, you want to "Disable" the Local DHCP Local Server so that it will not give out IP addresses. This setting can be found on the Setup/Basic Setup tab on your WRTP54G.

So i got this straight.
you have a |phone adapter/wireless router(ap)|, and a |wired router(ap)|.

The |phone adapter/wireless router| you just want as a router only.

question,do you want |phone adapter/wireless router to function as wireless or wired or both

Question, how do you plan on connecting the two together? Long ethernet cable?

because it sounds like you want them in opposite parts of the house.

I have my house wired for ethernet. I am going to connect the router to the network. I only want to use the router part of the device. I intend to connect the Vonage router to my network, and disable the router part, so it doesnt interfere with my main router. That way it becomes a wireless access point and gives out internet to my wireless networked computers.

So if i disable the DHCP server it will not give out ips, it will ask the main router to get an ip?

Also what should i set up the ip settings for the Vonage router, i shouldnt let it get them automatically from the main router, but enter custom ones?

OK, got it now.

darrell has the answer, also if you can turn off the raido broadcaster.
and make sure the IP the phone adapter is asking for from the wired router is available to it.

Also, if you have a problem (it dosent work) if all else fails. set up all with all functions on get it to work. then disable the items you dont want.

also as a performance tip if it is possible set up router so phone adapter is on the routers DMZ with a open/unresticted non-firewalled connection to the internet.
