Is the D-Link VTA, or the Motorola VT2142 router more reliable?

Good question. I haven't seen a lot of complaints about either one.

I was told by the Vonage rep that the Dlink is small and good for travelling. The Motorola is more expensive so I chose it, since I won't be taking my Vonage adaptor with me too often.

If you want and adapter that will adapt to crappy signals and is trouble free go with Motorola if you can still find them. (Most used units will not be re-activated by Vonage from what I have heard. Be careful when shopping....

While I can't make a comparison between the quality of the D-Link VTA and Motorola VT2142, I can say that the reason I chose the Motorola VT2142 is because I didn't have a separate router. It was my understanding, and perhaps I'm wrong, that you need a router somewhere in-line, be it a built in one or a standalone, for VoIP and regular IP traffic to go through at the same time.

The Motorola VT2142 is good in that it has QoS which gives priority over phone calls when the Vonage line is in use. As I am unfamiliar with the D-Link VTA I'm unsure if it has that capability.

I haven't had a single problem with the Motorola VT2142, and am very pleased with all it has to offer as far as configurability. I hope this helps!

my personal choice would be the Motorola VT2142 Phone Adapter with Router

depending what you consider small they are both very easily portable(both small in my opinion)

my personal opinion, they are about the same as far as possible issues. it really comes down to, do you already have a router?
if you dont have a router you need an adapter with a router, if you already have a router & dont plan on traveling with the device where you would need to have your computer & the adapter plugged in, go with the vta....

Phone adapters are not good routers, pretty much let each device do only the job it does best.

However, a combo phone adapter/router(WIRED) has some advantages even if you dont use it for all of its functions. That's why i like the one i said. WITH THE EXCEPTION OF WIRELESS ROUTER/PHONE ADAPTER COMBOS I WOULD STAY AWAY FROM THOSE.

some people would disagree with my last opinion and have had no trouble, but i still think their bad news.

Hope i just didn't confuse you.
anyway, not to repete myself but i recomend the Motorola VT2142 Phone Adapter with Router
