There used to be a toll free number but it no longer works. You will have to find a local v-access number.

I wasn't aware of it either until tonight, found out about it on the U.S forum site. Just wished I had known about this before, I was giving out my pay as you go phone cell number to friends and then I would call them back. I tried to convince them to switch, but no luck.

It was pointed out on the U.S.A forum that the 800 number is gone from the list of V-Access numbers, it does still work....for now.

****?? hrmm.. it was there the other day, but I can confirm it is gone from the site now..

I am surprised that Vonage has any of these numbers, cuz whats the point of the virtual number for most ppl then? if you aren't receiving many calls via your virtual number, you might as well use the -Access numbers instead and save the $7.99 +tx every month.. sure is making me think about my Columbia SC number...

This is a great feature indeed.... I have a UK virtual number right now but it is not being used that often. I keep it mostly as a 'convenience' for my friends there, but most of the time I end up being the one placing the call....

But now here's the catch!!! (or rather the problem I am experiencing) I've asked a friend in the UK to call me using a London UK V-Access number. He gets the Vonage prompt, dials my number in Canada, and then... nothing... the line hangs up!! I've had him try other UK V-Access numbers, same result. He tried also V-Access numbers from France, Italy, Spain, etc... same result!!! And get this: if he dials a V-Access number, and then when prompted enters my UK virtual number instead of my Canada number, the call goes through successfully!!

As a last step in my testing/troubleshooting, I've called myself (and so has he) using some USA V-Access numbers. I wanted to be sure it was not my account or Canada phone number that was the problem. But it works like a charm when using a north american V-Access number!!

Now I'm overly confused by this. The Vonage website clearly states that this feature works internationally in all countries where V-Access numbers exist. Could that be false advertising? Or is it simply a glitch in their system?

Obviously, I have contacted Vonage about this but the 2 different CSR's I've spoken to (in India, of course) did not even know what the V-Access feature was and kept thinking I had a voicemail problem (surprise surprise...). So I wrote to Vonage instead, first reply I got was a detailed explanation on how to access my voicemail (again). The 2nd time around, the response I got was basically a cut and paste from their website on how to use V-Access.

Has anyone else tested this and experienced the same problem?

try to email pr@vonage.ca and mention your problem, be sure to mention that you've tried calling and emailing and tell them of your responses, I don't know if that addy still works, but it used to work and since it's their PR dept, they acted promptly.. also, there is a link on this forum, at the top of the page to get to Vonage, and supposedly it receives 'special attention'..
