My modem works, my router works and the Vonage device appears to be working.
Why must I reset everything every 3 days?
Never did I realize so many things could go wrong.
Time to use my landline again.

modem: Motorola SB4200 Surfboard Cable modem
Router Linksys WRT54G
Vonage device D-Link VTA-VD

Out of the last 30 days I have been able to use my phone maybe 16 days. It will work fine for 3 days then the phone will go out but the modem and router are still working. There is no phone signal from the D-Link device and the other two lights are flashing.

Where is the phone signal? Never have I been so angry because I can see that everything is configured properly but I have to unplug the Vonage device and router for hours and days.

Is the device set on the routers DMZ?

If not give it a try.
(you will need to power cycle all devices after you set that)

You mean that you can't simply re-boot it? You have to leave it off for days before it will work again? No one should have to put up with that. The next time it happens, call customer service and tell them to get it working or get ready to lose a customer.

In the meanwhile, why not run the forum Voip test and post the detailed results here? Maybe someone will see something that will help.

Maybe I am wrong but Vonage and Comcast both advertise how easy it is to set up. The problem is time. I don't have a lot of time to call tech support all the time. I called them the first time it happened and I got up and running for a few days and it stopped working again. It is like you have to be a tech person to be able to diagnose thedse problems and fix them. I am a claims adjudicator not an IT person. I can set up basic software/hardware configurations but I am in no way a tech person. When I visit the forum I see so many problems people are having.

What you say is true. I think most people do get it set up quickly and easily. I've said on more than one occasion that I wish Vonage would spend more on support and less on advertising, and that they should warn of the pitfalls that await the few. Unfortunately, you're one of the few.

As for so many people having problems, I think that's a matter of perspective. Compared to the total number of people using the service, it's probably a pretty small number.

Ha! Good one!

Last time I called their customer service I was on hold for an hour and a half and gave up.

Right now my Vonage doesn't work. If I have to call them I will ask them to cancel my service.

For you people with issues, please post your details and let us try to help you. You should not have to put up with issues that we could probably help fix or at least diagnose.

If your plan is soley to come here and cry/moan, then you should seek that somewhere else. Just as you don't have time to deal with customer support, we don't have time to listen to whining. Remember, this forum is independant of Vonage.

We're here to help. So let us.

Sorry to cry and moan, I am having a tech person come to my house next Saturday. I think it is a communication issue between the modem, router and Vonage device. I can run a test and post it here but some people are saying that where I live is very poor for cellphones and internet service in general. I may be able to solve all my problems by finding a new house in a different part of town with good coverage.

Navydavy, doesn't it show, from looking at the scope of the postings in the forum that Vonage has not ironed all the bugs out?
Why is it up to us to resolve the issues on our own?

If it were as simple as plugging in all the devices, there would be no forum, unless it was a forum to praise Vonage. I'm sure the problems are with Voip services in general such as Skype and others.

Thank you.

Speaking for myself, I think all of the regulars here recognize that Vonage has its issues, particularly in the area of technical support. I'd say that's the reason most of us are here. Dave's point is that there isn't a thing we can do about Vonage's faults. All we can do is try to help.

Complaints are understandable, but they need to go to Vonage management. I recommend the forum contact page for that, since we're told that messages coming via that route get special attention.
