OK so I've been using this Belkin router for about 6 months before getting my Vonage account and it worked MUCH better than my previous WRT54G router. Then 3 months ago I get Vonage and a VT2442 along with it. I decided to use this solo with my network and with QoS enabled, the network just performs miserably..
I have two gaming PCs that rely HEAVILY on the internet and wanted to go back to the Belkin but I cannot seem to get the Vonage to work with it.. the VT2442 power light just turns red and i get that weird recording.. Help and insite is much appreciated.
- I am located in Dallas, TX
- I have the SBC Yahoo! DSL Elite Package
- Connected at 6016 Kbps (downstream) and 768 Kbps (upstream) with a Seimens SpeedStream 4100
- Vonage adapter is Motorola VT2442
- Trying to setup network as:
Modem---->Router---->Vonage Adapter
[with both PCs plugged into the router, not the adapter]

Your test looks great. Is the Belkin router set up as a DHCP server? Are you running the VT2442 with its default settings, or have you changed some things on it since you first got it? |

When I first set everything up, it worked for a few days on all default settings.. everything is set up as DHCP and about the only thing i set up myself was just encryption for the WiFi and port forwarding for some apps.. |

If you plug your computer in to the LAN side of the VT2442, can you access the internet? Can you get to the admin pages of the VT? If not, I'd try a hard reset on the VT by holding in the reset button on the back for about 30 seconds.
If you can get to the admin pages of the VT, check its WAN side settings. Make sure it's still set from dynamic IP. |

OK so I tried this...
I WAS able to get internet.. everything is still set to DHCP.. internet IS working, but the adapter still has a red blinking power light indicator and I still get the Vonage recording. |

It's still blinking red with the VT2442 connected to the Belkin, but it works OK when it's connected directly to the modem? Is this correct?
If that's correct, I have to assume that the Belkin is blocking some needed ports. Try putting the VT2442 in the DMZ. You may want to look through
this thread as well. |

Set adapter in the DMZ..
Opened ALL TCP and UDP ports from 10,000 to 20,000..
Even disabled the Belkin Firewall.
No luck. Happy New Year btw! |

Yarg. It works OK without the Belkin, it gets to the internet from behind the Belkin, and yet the phone service won't work even with it in the DMZ, ports open, and firewall off. I must admit that I'm stumped. Maybe someone else has some ideas about this. |

I had an issue like this with my VWR. After a call to support, they had me change the IP Address and DHCP Pool of my Belkin Router because there's a known issue with connecting to ANY Router that is 192.168.2.1, the chipset on the Vonage Devices (the tech said all the devices)...
So, I changed my Router IP on my Belkin to 192.168.0.1 and the DHCP pool as well and everything's fine now. (If you're curious as to why I have two routers, I needed more ports than the 4 the VWR offers.)
Hope this helps! Please let me know if it worked for you too |
