Yes, I saw it mentioned by someone else and tried it and it works. I don't know how many calls it can handle simultaneously, but it works fine right now.

I must be missing something here. If someone from the UK calls one of the UK access numbers they then can then dial a Vonage number in the US for no charge to either party.?

yes. they have to dial the UK local number first followed by the Vonage number. its like calling locally.

Even better, soneone in the UK can call the Vonage UK number, and from there dial any US toll-free number. Neither the caller nor the called number need to be Vonage. Normally you'd pay international toll rates to do this from the UK.

Unfortunately non of the UK's V-Access numbers I have tried worked when dialling from a mobile phone or a BT line to a Vonage line in US. The line disconnects after a prompt to press digit 1 to complete the call. Has anyone experienced this?

I've only tested dialing into the Vonage toll-free V-Access number (800-342-6640) from within the US. My call went through to the Vonage residential number I was trying to reach

Vonage must have caught their mistake in posting the 800 number. It is not in the list here: http://www.vonage.com/features.php?feature=v_access

Yes you are correct it isn't listed anymore. I wonder how much longer it will work. Where I live there it is long distance for my neighbour to call me because I can't get a local number. Even with the V-Access numbers they have listed will only only be a local call where there is Vonage service.

When you dial the (former) 800 access number now, you get the sound of some kind of data device (modem or fax machine) trying to connect.

Great going Vonage Sad

The 800 number was what made V-Access a useful feature. Having only one number per area code as an access number virtually assures that the feature won't be used since about 90% of anyone who tries to use it will incur a long distance charge anyway. In the four area codes I checked for members of my far-flung family, not one of them was a local call in their area code.

If they say, "we'll add more numbers as we go along", well great, but I don't have the interest anymore to keep going back to that page to check for new numbers. And it's not like that V-Access page is prominently featured in their home page. Can someone show me how you found V-Access in the first place without typing it into their "search" box? Talk about hiding what might have been a useful feature. More great "marketing".
