HI all, Ive been a Vonage customer for well over a year now, and I am having a problem with a new device I just bought. My old setup was a BEFW11S4 wireless router piggybacked to a RT31P2 phone port router. It all seemed to work fine except until I got the bright idea in my head to upgrade to a single wireless router with phone ports.
My connections seem to be working ok on the new router, I can access internet (as Im typing this, and my girlfriend's laptop is picking up the wireless signal ) and my Xbox connects to Xbox LIVE just fine.
When I tried to add the device to my account like mentioned in other posts I get a incorrect WAN/MAC address error. The router was brand new in box and Im pretty sure I set it all up correctly, so I need help. Im one of the few people out there that doesnt own a cell phone so Vonage is my only phone. I need to fix this ASAP because like I said, I have no phone until this is fixed.
Thanks for your time. |

If you are getting an invalid MAC address when you are trying to activate your new device, you are going to have to contact Customer Service about the issue or take the WRTP54G back to the store and exchange it for another one...hopefully the exchange will not have the same issue with the MAC address. |

What is the model number of the new router you purchased? Does it say Vonage on the box? Does it have a Vonage welcome kit in the box? If there is a welcome kit, does it have the Vonage US terms of service in it? |

And if it's a D-link VWR rather than a WRTP54G, then you might consider just taking it back. They're having a lot of firmware issues with the D-link.
Frankly, I like your original setup better. The adapter/routers are not renowned for being robust routers. Unless you were having real problems with the old setup, I'd consider sticking with it.
In any case, you should still have phone service until you decide what to do. Just plug the RT31P2 into the new router. |

After reading a few posts on another forum, I have found out that while it IS the correct model router, it is for a Earthlink starter kit, and while I thought that the only diff was the documentation and the box, it seems to have a diff firmware set up specificly for Earthlink? I reall thought the router would work because it doesnt have any model suffix besides the basic model number on the router itself.
assuming I figured out my own problem, Ill be at BestBuy today picking up the Vonage kit and starting over. Ill post back when I get that one. |
