Vonage does not support VPN networks. I just got off the phone with the highest level support there.
The soft phone is so cool and we wish it would operate always and well, but there are aspects of VPN that make it so hard they have come out and said, "We don't support use of our devices through VPN." |

Well, what is the problem you are having with your softphone? Why do you need to run it through a VPN? Your post seems to be missing some critical information.
Post what the actual problem is here and maybe we can help you out with it even if Vonage doesn't(or isn't able to) support it. |

Which VPN software are you using? Is it the the one built into Windows (pptp)? Or are you using another VPN solution? I run all my Vonage devices though a VPN. The one I use is called OpenVPN. I haven't had any problem running any of my Vonage devices over it. If you are using the VPN built into Windows try increasing the priority to explorer.exe. My university used to block games. I had to connect to an isp using pptp to get them to work. I remember having to set the priority on explorer.exe up to fix the ping times. If that is indeed your case; give it a shot, and let me know. |

I connect to work using the Cisco VPN software. Once connected, I cannot dial out or do anything worthwhile with the Vonage Softphone. As long as I do not connect through the VPN, everything works normally and well. |

I'll bet this is less of a problem with Vonage and more of an issue with your company's firewall or filter. We block all outbound Voip from work, for example. Check with your network admins where you work. There's nothing specific to VPN (especially IPSec VPNs, which is what you're using unless you're using the new-ish SSL VPN functionality in the Cisco client) that would otherwise prevent Voip. We're using it extensively with our INTERNAL Voip network, with no issues. |

Aberrant - I think you are right. I will try using it tomorrow from inside the firewall and see if it works any better than dialing in from home.
Either way, the entire reason for getting the softphone was to have a second line I could use when working from home, so I'm probably going to be returning the phone. Still curious though. |

Another option would be to talk to your network folks about enabling split tunneling. They may be reluctant to to do this since it can be a huge security hole, but it never hurts to ask. |

You are right. They were reluctant (to put it nicely). |
