Hello,
I have 2 voice lines and a fax machine that has its own number. I don't currently have Vonage service but am thinking about getting it.
Since I have so many phones around the house, if I get Vonage I plan to plug in the Vonage equipment into the jacks so that the entire house has the system.
I have a question about the equipment to get. I currently have a cable modem and a wireless B network router. One computer is connected via ethernet and the others are wireless. --Having a G router would be a good idea.
Anyway... I realize that I would have to get 2 adapte)rs, one 2 line adapter and another 1 line adapter. I've heard of ones that have wireless routers built-in.
I am curious as to what equipment people recommend for my situation. I do not mind getting a new router as my current one is old (just B! ha). Of course I want equipment that works well. I know certain equipment is eligible for rebates (and one rebate per account if ordering through Vonage) -- --do people frequently sign up for multiple accounts if they have a 3-line situation like mine?
Thanks in advance for your advice and have a happy New Year's! |

First, I would recommend running the forum Voip test and also a test call to Boston at www.testyourvoip.com . These tests will give you a decent idea of how well Voip will work for you with your ISP. Second, I would recommend that you keep your existing router or replace it with a good router and not rely on a Vonage wireless router/adapter. These routers are not known for being very robust as routers. The D-link VWR also has major firmware issues at the moment.
Make sure that the router you use has good QoS capability. Set it up to favor the Vonage adapters that you plug into it, and all should be well.
Many people have multiple adapters for multiple Vonage phone lines. However, you don't need to have multiple accounts. Put them all under one. In your situation, you might want to start with just one and see how it goes, gradually eliminating the land lines if it works out. |
