I'd recommend a version 1 PAP2 if you can find it (rather than the PAP2 V2), for router/wireless, the WRT54GL is a forum favourite and it's reputation is well-deserved. These little routers are surprisingly powerful and Peer-to-Peer and RDP don't even come close to overloading one of these.

Fixed it!

If the router or the non-Microsoft DHCP server does not support the DHCP BROADCAST flag, you can set the following registry entry as follows:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces\{GUID}

GUID will be for the NIC being used, if currently got it to work via static IP, see which GUID has that IP

Value name: DhcpConnForceBroadcastFlag
Value type: REG_DWORD

I am in total shock that Vonage suggested this router to me. I admit, should have done my homework on the router to make sure that it wasn't bad before I purchased it, but I had more faith in Vonage than that.

There is almost nothing that works on this router (other than the phone service which works very reliably). Some computers can connect, some can not... Some port forwarding works, most does not.... And the port forwarding that does work, is very fragile. Rebooting the router for any reason can mess it all up.

After looking over the posts here from the past, it seems this router was released back in October... That means it's had more than 6 months of advertising and public backing for a product that SIMPLY DOES NOT WORK.

I was using a WRT54GP2, which worked really well with the exception that it would reboot at random times and for some reason it would not accept the most recent Firmware Upgrade that I downloaded from the LinkSys site.

I am going to go back to using my WRT54GP2 and send the VWR back. I won't be taking any more recommendations from Vonage.

Fool me once... Shame on you... Fool me twice, shame on me... So SHAME ON YOU Vonage, for advertising such a poor product.

You can't get the Vonage firmware off linksys, this is why it doesn't work.

Oh, and the VWR was released in August. I originally signed up for a WRTP54G and received a VWR because the WRT's were discontinued.

That being said, my VWR was great until it started getting some really crazy random reboots, etc.

It was because of the Random Reboots and not being able to upgrade the firmware on my WRT54GP2 is why I started looking for a new router.

I suppose if I could upgrade the firmware on my WRT54GP2 I would be fine, but obviously that's not going to happen..

I am curious though, what about the VWR do you find great? From my frustrating experience, the ONLY thing about it that appears reliable so far is the phone service. I really do wish there was something I was doing wrong that would magically make the port forwarding and WEP security settings work... That would be one of those times I would be happy to be wrong... but sadly, I am not wrong in this case. Sad

Hello, I just received this router. I have used a stand alone router with a linksys P2P in the past. Have these issues been resolved yet with a firmware upgrade or something else. I don't want to put myself through this if not.

I had a WRTP54G die on me last week and they sent me a VWR to replace it. Cry Anyways, I'm having the same portforwarding issues that everyone else seems to be having (even though I never ran into any problems on my WRTP54G. My Xbox360 will not connect to Live and my wife's laptop has a horrendous net connection, though my desktop is fine so far.

The VWR has the following firmware: VWR-11.4.0-r060331-1.00.03-r061127.img

According to what others have posted there is a newer one (VWR-11.4.1-r060815-1.00.04-r070311.img) but when I called tech support they told me the router does have the latest firmware and didn't know what else to say. I asked if I could return the VWR for a phone adapter and after a long hold session I was told all of their phone adapters are out of stock.

well, I sent mine back. Could not get the phone side of it to work at all. They offered to send me the Motorola VT 2542 as a replacement. This has turned into a hassel also because they can not seem to get it right one out the door. I have been playing adapter ping pong. Mad

I've had the Motorola VT2542 (replaced my WRTP54G) for about two weeks now and as an overall router and Voip device, I'm very satisfied. Incoming and outgoing call quality is excellent, I find the wireless range to be very good and port forwarding was easy to setup and works. Once received, I think you would be more than satisfied with the Motorola VT2542.

sorry to resurrect an old post, but I just got a VWR a few weeks ago and cannot for the life of me get the port forwarding going. Ive followed different instructions exactly and every time the port is still blocked. It is so frustrating. I havent bothered calling into Vonage about it yet.

Anyone else still having issues?
