To answer the question:
right does someone know how to use the 'Custom Port Forwarding' section on the 'virtual server' page. help would be appreciated, maybe that turns into a better work around???

I successfully used Custom Port Forwarding as a workaround to the broken User-defined port forwarding rules.
The tricky part was figuring out what to use the "extra" fields for that don't appear in the User-defined port forwarding screens: Source IP, Source Netmask, and Destination Netmask.
If you don't know (or care) what IP addresses will be contacting your internal server to which you are mapping ports, then you should set Source IP = 0.0.0.0 and Source Netmask = 0.0.0.0. Also, leave Destination Netmask = 255.255.255.255.

For the sake of thoroughness, to round out the easier part of the story:
Destination IP address: the LAN IP address of the host to which you want the forwards to be redirected.
Destination Port Start/End: the begin and end IP address of the range of IP addresses on which the external hosts will contact you on.
Destination Port Map: The port on your internal host that you want the forwards sent to.

Just to let everyone know, there is a new firmware version available for the VWR.

So far they've fixed just a few things. Many things STILL don't work.

I still can't get RDP to work over WAN (LAN works fine).

Solution: Currently being worked by vendor.

The funny part is that this has been an issue with this chipset (Texas Instruments) since the RTP300 and I see they STILL haven't fixed it yet... beautiful. Specifically what happens is that the adapter is supposed to MUTE these tones from the phone and have the Vonage system reproduce them at their end. Well, it's a little slow to mute, so many systems will hear 2 of everything you push. It was bad enough that I went back to a PAP2 (couldn't get through on about 25% of the IVR systems I use...unfortunately 3 of my most called numbers are in that 25%).

I have the issue where if I enable wirless, then wired connections don't get valid DHCP addresses. I still have the older firmware and want to see if this addresses the issue. Funning thing is that if I disable wireless, wired connection get DHCP fine. Also, this is a Vista PC and do not have this issue with XP.

I don't ever buy all-in-one devices unless I can't avoid it. The firmware is always less than poor. I use a wired router, wireless access point and the d-link vta. As long as I have electricity and the cable is up I've got zero issues.

You have to get the firmware upgrade done by Vonage tech support.

I've decided to keep the VWR until the Motorola VT2542 is available in Canada or until I can find a suitable alternative.

Can anyone suggest a very robust wired/wireless solution that will allow true QOS and port-forwarding that will let me use RDP? I want the best of each of a phone adaptor, router, and wireless access point.

I asked the customer support rep if they received a lot of calls about the VWR and he laughed!

Top-level tech support also had no idea why Remote Desktop (RDP) was not working, and wasn't able to offer me ANY help.

Yay Vonage!
