I'm also having issues with port forwarding. All I want to do is be able to use an FTP program (like SmartFTP) to access my website, but it will not work. I've tried multiple FTP programs and they are all having the same issue. If I plug my cable modem directly into my computer it works fine, which tells me the issue is with the VWR. Any advice or solution would be much appreciated. |

Well, I just got off the phone with Vonage "level 2" tech support. They told me that there is a "known issue" with accessing FTP through the wireless function on the router. Using one of the ethernet ports on the back of the VWR to connect it directly to my computer resulted in no problems accessing the FTP site. I told them that that sort of defeats having a wireless router. Long story short...they are sending me out a new router, the Motorola VT2542. Hopefully this will take care of the problem. I'll post the follow up as soon as I get it. |

Got the new Vonage router today (Motorola VT2542)...problem solved! My FTP program (SmartFTP) connected the 1st time to my site. Phone works great too. I think Vonage should practice a little customer service and send out this router to anyone still using the old D-Link VWR. I didn't have to configure it for port forwarding or anything like that. Good luck to anyone else having similar problems. |

I always thought d-link was pretty poor quality, and bad with reliability, but wow. this sounds like the windows me kind of bad. never should have hit the market. I refuse to have anything d-link on my network. netgear switches have always been my most favorite. reliable and very fast. linksys is a good brand for the normal user, but I think the problems I've had with their routers stems from having too little ram or cpu power. this is true for most home routers, which either use the same chip-set or a similar one. |

I've had the DLink VWR for a few months now since I picked it up at PC World in the UK.
It has the following firmware VWR-11.4.0-r060331-1.00.03-r061127.img
It seems to me that this router works fine for what I want it for except for one major flaw.
Every so often the router will have a bit of amnesia and forget all it's wireless settings (which I presume that means that the firmware is randomly re-writing the eprom - could there be a virus in the firmware?). It will then revert back to the SSID of DlinkVWR with no protection.
To switch the protection back on and change the SSID back I need to change the SSID back first, then Apply it and reboot, then add the wireless WPA protection and Apply it twice before it will turn it all back on.
If you change the SSID first then add the WPA it reloads the page and forgets what you changed the SSID to, and doesn't apply the WPA.
If you apply the WPA and then change the SSID and then apply it says on the setup screen the SSID is the new one, but Windows still sees it transmitting the DlinkVWR SSID out with no protection.
And if you apply the SSID and then apply the WPA protection only once it doesn't apply it, so you need to apply it twice. |

Product Information Model Number VWR
Software Versions Gateway VWR-11.4.1-r060815-1.00.04-r070401.img Boot Loader 1.3.8.1602
Seems to be a new firmware pushed out. Not sure exactly when it happened.
Most of what people have listed here is still broken. Router does seem to hold it's wireless settings now. It also remembers user created rules for custom port forwarding..Haven't seen a lock-up in about a month. overall still a poor product. |

That is not new firmware. 11.4.1 has been out for quite some time and the date on it is 0608 which is June 2008. The new firmware will be coming out and it will be a 12.x release. It should address most commonly reported issues. Will be released over the next few months. |

Hmm sorry for the misinfo then..Until recently my router had the same firmware that TheKLF99 above reported.. no idea why my router didn't update sooner.
Thanks for the heads up on a new firmware coming out.. |

I think I have read on different threads over here the problem faced when you are trying to do port forwarding on DLink VWR device. Port Fwding is especially required if you using any torrent clients.
A solution has been given at http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Dlink/VWR-11.4.0/Utorrent.htm but the problem is when you click on 'New' to add a rule to User category, it gives a blank page.
Solution is instead to click on 'Custom Port Forwarding' [http://192.168.15.1 (username n passwd both are 'user') > Advanced > Virtual Server (on left side frame)] and then putting in the following details: - Enable: Select it - Application: Name of application such as utorrent, etc - Protocol: TCP & UDP (for safety sake rather than just one of them) - Source IP Address: 0.0.0.0 - Source NetMask: 0.0.0.0 - Destination IP Address: Your laptop/desktop's static ip add - Destination Netmask: 255.255.255.255 - Destination Port Start: 80 - Destination Port End: 80 - Destination Port Map: 80
Also change the port on your application (such as utorrent to 80). This should do the trick. |

If what VonTechMgr says is correct, how does that explain my software report of VWR-11.4.1-r060331-1.00.03-r061127.img Boot Loader 1.3.8.1602 which would imply June 2003?
More importantly, how does one get the firmware update? I assumed it was pushed over the network.
Much more importantly, when is this "next few months" going to happen; no bull$#!t?
The post below those that describes the work-around for custome port forwarding was very helpful!! |
