Vonage has added a new FREE (sorta) feature. V-Access.

It provides a "local" access number to dial and then be transfered to any Vonage phone for the price of calling that local access number.

Seems like this would almost eliminate the need for most residential customers to have a virtual number... but, it is their business.

Very Happy That's neat. I see it on the Vonage site as V-Access.

However, the access number for the 443 area code gives me a number is not in use type message. Rolling Eyes

I reported the V-Access number as not being in service. Here is the response:

We understand from your email that you have issue accessing Voicemail for area code 443.

Yesterday, we had issues with receiving Inbound Calls. Hence you were unable to access the Voicemail. Our engineers have worked diligently to resolve this issue.

I tried the 301 access number and it worked.

V-Access is ok, and gets the job done. I tested it to see what would come over my caller ID. The number I was calling from came over, but in an international format (0111-area code-number).

I just saw the feature on the Vonage Website and my immediate thought was the exact same thing. I could not believe that they would offer something for free when the offer essentially the same thing for 4.99 or 9.99 a month. It would require an extra step for people calling you, but if it works well it would be great. Does anyone know if the international access numbers are in their respective languages or in english?

Note that Vonage has quietly slipped an 800 number into the list of "local" V-Access numbers... 1-800-342-6640.
