Hi all, new to Vonage and had a question I was hoping I could have answered for me. Everything sounds great and it's gotten great reviews so far... but I was wondering when you talk on the phone does it put a toll on your broadband speed when surfing/downloading? I surf a lot and download torrents too and that's one thing I'm worried about. Any clarification would be appreciative. Thanks. |

I have used my Vonage while D/L torrents and making a LD international call with no degradation in sound quality. But I think everyone’s situation is different, and the quality of the connection from your ISP.
Besides, you can always go to your dashboard, which is where you can view all calls made, received on your Vonage line. There is a setting which you may alter the sound quality of your call slightly to save valuable bandwidth.
Hope this helps. |

Friend,
If you are on cable, or a reasonably fast DSL connection, you truly won't notice a difference in your internet speed while you're on the phone. Actually, I have two Vonage lines, and I can talk on both of them, and still download files, browse the web, etc., with absolutely no noticable degredation in my internet connection speed.
The one thing I do notice every once in a while - if I start to upload a file, or send an email with a large attachment while I'm on the phone, the person I'm talking to will notice that I start to sound a bit choppy for a few seconds, then it clears up. That is probably because my upload speed on my cable internet connection is capped at just 256k, and when I send a file, it starts to cut into that upstream bandwidth a little bit because there's not much of it.
Otherwise, no - I think you'll most likely find the answer from most people is Vonage will not affect your internet connectivity performance whatsoever.
Hope that helps!
