Hello all, i am having trouble playing World of Warcraft (im new to it); i get disconnected every few minutes. I tried the support site of the game and it suggested to do a tracert. (also i have already opened the ports for the game)
all the tracert i do timed out on the first hop then all other hops are fine after the 1st. so i connected directly to the modem and ALL hops are good! so im assuming the router firewall is blocking it.
i tried to disable firewall through the router page (192.168.15.1) under SETTINGS > ADVANCED ROUTING. it says "FIREWALL & NAT", i choose the disable and save settings then the router resets itself. after that i cannot access the internet.
can somebody help me on how to properly disable that setting and still have internet connection? anything will be greatly appreciated. i just want to make sure that i have exhausted everything before i go out and just buy another router.

If things are working for a few minutes before quitting, I doubt that disabling firewall and NAT is the answer. The Vonage adapter/routers are not renowned for being robust routers, and the message traffic involved in gaming may be causing your WRTP54G to fail. Do a search on the forum for WRTP54G and forum author NateHoy and get an earful.
If this is the problem, you may need to invest in a better router and put the Vonage box behind it to serve only as a phone adapter. |

I've had both a D-Link VWR and a Linksys WRTP54G and neither worked well as a router.
The D-Link has multiple issues I've referenced here (see the last two posts):

and the WRTP54G had issues I discussed here:

I don't think any Vonage combo devices are a good move from what I've experienced myself and read here from others.
What *might* work is enabling QoS and giving WoW top priority. See page 43 of the manual. It certainly wouldn't hurt to try this since the problem repeats itself so often. I'd suggest power cycling the device after setting up the QoS for a proper test though. |
