The problem is that Mac modems have historically not supported caller id and therefore there hasn't been much interest in creating caller ID applications.
Does the modem in your Mac handle caller ID?
Found one for Mac OS X (I think): http://ncid.sourceforge.net/ |

Ask and ye shall receive!
I've been using CIDTracker for almost a year now. It runs on Mac OS X, and can get caller ID either from a modem in the Mac or using the YAC protocol over the network.
Personally, I've got a Linux box running Asterisk that sends the CID info via YAC's protocol, but I've been looking at setting up a sniffing solution instead. Just need to dig up an old 10Mbit hub... |

When I use it I get it to work, but every number says unavailable. Is that just my modem though? |

Im using phonetray too. Mine says N/A too but in the options I clicked the button to fix caller ID if it says N/A and it found the correct modem init string. It says I have to reboot for changes to take effect. I am currently on a 6 hour flight using microsoft flight simulator so in about three hours I guess I will see if it works
EDIT: PhoneTray works great! Displays the number boldly in the middle of the screen and speaks the name and number. Very nice. Now I dont have to keep a cordless phone near me while I am at the computer. |

Seriously guys this seems like a pretty ghetto solution. Vonage can't you create a nice little yahoo or OS X widget for us were you take the caller id from the Vonage box and display that on our desktops?

only way I see to get caller id with Vonage, like most have already stated: run phone line to pc modem, use 3rd party software.
however! why use 3rd party software, if you have windows xp, just install windows xp fax feature, when you get a call you get a pop-up from the sys tray. |

Why cant something be developed for caller ID like the Click-2-Call feature? They could make an application that could do caller ID and outbound calls. Since all incoming calls are listed on our web login anyway...... |

i agree, see... Verizon DSL offers IOBI...
I had them both. I installed IOBI, I would get the pop up on my screen seconds before the phone even rang.
That's what you're talking about right...
Yes Vonage NEEDS their own software that tells me who is calling.
maybe Vonage should make a contract with IOBI |

Yes. This is exactly what I am talking about. We need a Vonage APPLICATION that would do some, if not all, of the following: Click-2-Talk, incoming Caller ID that appears on screen, a voice mail indicator and outgoing/incoming minutes used. Maybe the user could even pick and choose what they need to install/use. I am sure Vonage could do this, as it would be pulled diretly from our web account. It could sit in our system tray and a simple mouse-hover could tell you everything needed. |
