Hi everybody,

I have setup Vonage here in India with BSNL Dataone.
The internet is working fine, but I am having trouble with phone.

When my friend in USA calls me on my Vonage phone, it works fine.
But when I call my friend in usa, the call drops within few seconds.

So basically incoming call works fine, but outgoing call from my Vonage phone does not work. rather it works but the call drops in less than 10 sec.

Has anyone experienced similar problem?
I would really appreciate any help.

I hate to be the barer of bad news, but your government in india is blocking Vonage now because the government does not get any money from us. You would have to talk to you government to see what is going on.

Hi Andrew,

thanks for the replay.

I don't think Govt. of India is blocking vonage... because many people have been using Vonage successfully in India.
I guess it could be because the uplink speed of my ISP (BSNL) is not fast enough.

Steve,

you are right. I have been telling my friend to call back.
I doubt it is because of insufficient upload speed. I am going to try upgrading the ISP plan to get a better speed. hope that helps.

Andrew may be right. It's very odd that it works when the call is placed from the other end. Once a connection is established, you would think that ISP issues are the same either way (but I'm rarely sure of anything with this technology).

You may want to post the technical details listed in the sticky message at the top of the forum. Someone may be able to diagnose the problem.
