looking to buy a device to improve voice quality when downloading files. i notice theres 3 different ones available and wondering which is the best.
Hawking broadband booster D-Link Voip Internet Accelerator Linksys Network Optimizer
tons of positive reviews for the hawking since its the oldest and been around the longest. but is it now outdated. are the other two newer improved versions of the hawking. do they do the job better? any advice from owners of these is welcome. price wise the linksys seems to be the cheapest while the d-link is the most expensive. the hawking is somewhere in between. |

I've been using the Hawking HBB1 for about 7 months now and couldn't be more satisfied with it's performance. When I purchased my HBB1, Linksys had just released their optimizer and there were not many, if any, "user reviews" available for the Linksys so I went with the HBB1. If you decide to go with the HBB1, there is a firmware update (Firmware v1.2.0) dated 07/24/06.

Vonage 'offered' me one of these units (the Hawkings box). I think I'll take them up on it as they offered that and 3 months to try it out (to make up for about a year of pretty much non-existent service).
Does it have any relevance on downstream? Does it packetshape, or is it set by MAC? I have the wireless linksys with the TA built in, so I don't understand how it determines its QoS methods. |

These produts have no relevance on downstream and the QoS is not done by MAC accress.
I'm not sure what packetshaping is so I can't comment on that. |

FYI Packetshaping, in short is the concept of identifying a packets communicated protocol and throttling it as desired.
I guess it affects all traffic if it's not configurable then. |
