Voip is not made for fax transmission. Only about 15% of all Voip customers in the country are able to fax with some success. Vonage, your fax machine manufacturer, nor broadband provider can do anything to solve this. Other Voip companies tell you that fax is not possible right now. New protocols need to be implemented at the gateway and backbone level. This could take a long time. I feel I should let everyone be aware of this in order to save them time and frustration. If you are unable to send faxes, cancel your fax line, ask for a refund, and get an eFax number.

I beg to differ on this one. I have been faxing with Vonage for 2 years. Have had drops on occassions, but everyday I usually send out anywhere from 2 to 10, 2-3 page faxes, usually with 95% problem free. Maybe just lucky here in Orlando, FL.

Dialing out to modems or faxes just doesn't seem to work. Vonage tech support doesn't seem to understand the problem. Consider it a fundamental flaw of Vonage.

I'd wish someone would prove me wrong.

I have Time Warner Cable and Linksys from Vonage. My fax is a Borther IntelliFAX 770 and would not work on either line (I purchased a second line for fax). I did my research without calling Vonage first and got the fax to work great. Here is what I did:

1. I bought a 3-pack DSL In-Line Filter by Belkin from Staples and put the filter on the Linksys and phone cord from filter to fax. I used the other two for my TIVO and DIrecTV receiver.

2. I used *99 and the full 11-digit # I was trying to fax to - must do this even if the number is local.

3. The faxes still failed until I did the last step of changing the bandwidth under FEATURES in my Vonage account to 50 instead of 90.

YES! Everything works great! Hope this helps someone.

yea... I set the Dell 1600n to 9600 baud and all has been fine. May push the baud rate up to test it for faster speeds. Seems odd that only outbound faxing was impacted for me and making this adjustment corrected it.

Here's the instructions for adjusting the baud rate:

Standing in front of the 1600n-

1) press Menu
2) press #
3) press 1, 9, 3, 4 on the number keypad (in sequence..no need to hold down)
4) press Menu again

At this point wait a few seconds and you will see the word "TECH" displayed on the LCD display. Once you do continue on to the next step.

5) press Menu
6- press Select
7) press the <- or -> keys to navigate to "Modem Speed"
Cool press Select
9) press the <- or -> keys to select the baud rate (options: 4.8, 9.6, 12.0, 14.4, 28.8,33.6)
10)press Select once you have the baud rate you want displayed
11)press Return
12)press Return again

At this point you will be taken back to the main menu on the LCD display. It will still say "TECH". You need to get out of this mode so you have normal access. Do the following.

13)press Menu
14)press #
15)press 1, 9, 3, 4 on the number keypad (in sequence..no need to hold down)
16)press Menu

Now, simply wait a few seconds and you will see the LCD display return to it's normal status and "TECH" will no longer be displayed.

As you may now Vonage recommends 9600 baud.

Let me know if this helps!

I have a d135 and I had to call Vonage about problems with faxing, they walked me through how to go into a special menu and change the baud rate to 9600 on the machine. with a 2 conductor line and the fax direct into line 1 on the linksys I can now fax with no issues.

THANKS

* Press * and # at the same time
* press 1 then 2 then 3
* press right arrow, goto system config, hit enter
* goto r/w parameter
* press 1 then 5 then 3, then enter
* press 6, then enter (see note below).

As with many others have have spent a great deal of time trying to get my fax machine working properly. My issue that outbound faxes fail (call dials/ rings/ fast busy) as it turns out the tone are not being properly recognized by the Vonage system. I did come up with a work around 1) dial number using a normal phone 2) press START FAX button on FAX machine 3) hang up normal phone 4) enter any digit on HP FAX (the machine is waiting for a phone number one digit is enough) 5) FAX goes through.
