Hi Steve,
Regarding your earlier reply where you explained me the procedure...My very basic questions to you are...I would really appreciate if you would be able to answer these real basic doubts of mine....
By router do you mean the Vonage adapter? What is the LAN side of the router and WAN side of the router...are you referring to Ethernet and Internet ports respectively? Also by writing down everything do you mean all the addresses in the ipconfig/all command? How do I change my computer setup to dynamic addressing (DHCP)? After changing to DHCP setup you suggested to plug 'it' into the LAN side and reboot...can you please tell me what to plug into the LAN side...and should I also restart my Vonage adapter...modem while i reboot my computer? Now after all this...should I look for the userid and password provided by my ISP or do you mean some other address and password? Also you suggested to change back the WAN settings to the original one...so should i enter all the details that i originally wrote down b4 starting to change things...?
I am really sorry to trouble you with all this...but please do reply...i'm really having a hard time trying to fix all this...i thought this would be easy...

OK, Here is the deal, you need to log into the device using 192.168.15.1 and input your PPPoE settings. Once you have do that, the device will work.

But there is a bigger problem, india is blocking outgoing calls from Vonage lines because Vonage does not have a presance in india. so the governement cant tax us.

Whenever I connect my Vonage device, I am not able to connect to the internet. And when I connect directly to the modem I'm able to surf other pages but I get a timed out message when i try to access http://192.168.15.1
Is there a way around this?

Yes.

Yes, the LAN (local area network) side of the router is the ethernet side and the WAN (wide area network) side is the internet side.

When I say to write everything down, I mean anything that seems pertinent to what you're doing, and definitely anything that you change, so you can change it back if necessary. Like you, I'm a bit uncomfortable with all the computer network things, and I need to back myself up.

How you change to DHCP depends on your operating system. Often there's a check box or radio button labelled DHCP or "get address dynamically" or something similar.

When I say plug it into the LAN side, I mean plug your computer into the ethernet port of the Vonage router. You must have the computer plugged in there to communicate with the admin page of the Vonage router. After you've done that, re-boot both router and computer, router first.

Remember, what you started out with was a computer that was compatible with the ISP modem. What you want is a computer that's compatible with the ethernet (LAN) side of the router, and a router that's compatible on its internet (WAN) side with the modem. That way, the Vonage router gets working with the ISP and the computer gets working with the Vonage router, and everyone is happy. Does this make sense?

You take care of the first part by changing the computer to DHCP, which makes it compatible with the default setup of the Vonage router. That allows you to log on to the router admin pages.

Once you're there, you go on the the second part, which is setting up the internet side of the router to be compatible with the ISP modem. You do that by making it match the setup that the computer used to have. That's the other reason for writing things down.

I wish I could be more detailed than that, but I don't think I can without being there.

Hmmm I'm not really sure if the modem you are using has a built it router in it, you said you're using ADSL connection, if you really are using adsl configuration, then it means you're using PPPoA (not PPPoE), since Vonage devices dont support PPPoA you need to have an adsl modem router so you could just set up the Vonage device to dhcp, or have another router that supports PPPoA and from there you could hook up the Vonage device

Hey Guys....

Finally got my Vonage connection working..The internet connection is working fine...Vonage working perfect...Vonage has one HAPPY customer now...

Thanks everybody for their suggestions...especially Steve...The solution that you had given me finally worked...

Here is wht exactly got everything working...

Kept my computer as DHCP enabled...connected the cable between ethernet port on Vonage to my ethernet card on the computer...restarted the Vonage router and rebooted my PC in that order...this allowed me to connect to the admin page of the Vonage router...went to WAN settings there and changed from DHCP to PPPoE and gave my ISP username and password there...now here is the catch...in the username section type in just the username and not username@dataone...clicked on save settings there...and then clicked connect...then the power LED stops blinking and phone1 LED goes orange...then connect the phone to listen to the sweet sound of the 'Dial Tone'... Wink

Enjoyyyyyyyyyyyy

Thanks again Steve...

Ferrari,

I am facing the same problems. I would really appreciate if you could detail your setup to me, so that I can walk my folks through it.

Thanks
