Is the Motorola VT1005 a genuine ethernet router that does NAT, as some say?

If so I don't need a router to share my Internet connection, but only a hub between the VT1005 and the PCs (less expensive).

Let's figure it. Connect the modem-cable to the VT1005 WAN port. Connect the VT1005 PC port to the hub. Connect the PCs to the hub. It should work if the VT1005 is a genuine router.

Some say that the DHCP server of the VT1005 can assign only one IP address. I probably can bypass that limitation by assigning my PCs static addresses in the range of the VT (192.168.102.xxx)

Did anyone try such a configuration? Does it work?

You're welcome to try. Not like it hasn't been attempted before. IMO, you;d be wasting your money on that hub and then need to buy a router as well.

It's not officially called a router, but it does do NAT and acts as a DHCP server on the 192.168.102.x range - yes all available addresses in that range. Because of NAT, the unit is a nice little firewall for road warriors sitting in hotel rooms. It doesn't have all the features of a true router such as a Cisco router.
