Why is it that when i call someone, all that shows up on THEIR caller ID is "Vonage Service" or something like that? It would be nice if it showed OUR name, the caller's name, to the person we are calling.
I mean every other service offers this...... why not you?

Thanks!

They do enough advertising... you'd think we'd at least have our name show up to the person we're calling, especially since we obviously -- well, most of us -- have a new number and they might not recognize it!

Mine shows unknown, wireless caller or out of area as the name, with my phone number. I have heard that it sometimes shows my name with the number. I changes. I don't really care either way.

Unfortunately, my mother does not answer calls with no name. The number is there, but if she does not see a name, it is a no-answer for her. (Poor mom can barely remember her own phone number, so trying to remember mine and others who have Vonage would be close to impossible.)

My other Voip service does display name and number. Not sure why Vonage has no name, except for the free advertising.

My Vonage caller ID shows the number twice, that's all (nothing identifying the call as coming from a Vonage phone).

Where the *name* would normally be, my Vonage caller ID shows my number to the recipient.

And then it shows my number a second time where the number would be.

So, a person I call sees (fake number, but you get the idea):

234-567-8901
234-567-8901

Instead of:

Doe, John
234-567-8901

Nothing identifying it as a Vonage number, though.

This is also true for acquaintances who have Vonage.

That said, we all are associated with US numbers, maybe it's different for CA or UK.

I'd still like the *option* to have my name on caller ID with Vonage. It would help those who call people who won't pick up on a call if they don't see a name they recognize.

On my vtech phone, if your phone number is in my phonebook exactly as the caller ID presents it (e.g., 1-XXX-YYY-ZZZZ), the phone shows the phonebook entry name rather than the caller ID name provided. So if I have your number identified as "Shmoopy's cell phone" that's what I'll see in the caller ID when you call.

I logged a ticket for this issue - it took a while for Vonage to respond after some initial diagnostics on the line but I now have this response "Our partners in the United Kingdom [Gamma Telecom] have informed us that they do not support name displays on Caller ID made from telephone numbers located in the United Kingdom."

As it has worked in the past and now does not, I will be following this up and will update here.

This is why Vonage states that they only support outgoing call ID number, not name. If you say that you offer it, then you have to support it.. getting hundreds of tickets everyday when it does not work. Vonage does not own any of the lines that they use, so they are at the mercy of the local carriers. Some carriers support it, some don't. So.. don't offer it, less issues.

From the Vonage website:

Vonage's Caller ID with Name feature is identical to traditional Caller ID, except for the fact that on outbound calls (calls you make), only your phone number (and not your name) will show on Caller ID with Name units of the party you are calling.
