I don't understand why. I have a line running from my vonage adapter to my all in one printer, then a line to my phone w/ answering machine. My answering machine is set to pick up after 4 rings, the fax is set to pick up after 6. That is the suggested settings for my hp 6180. Does anyone have any input about why this wouldn't be working correctly?

Sure. The answering machine picks up after 4 rings, so it never rings 6 times. The fax machine never answers.
