I'm helping a friend set up their Vonage accounts as follows:
Their ISP is Verizon DSL. Currently, I have the DSL modem piping through the Vonage router with cat5 running from the Vonage router directly to one computer. This works great (as it's supposed to) Now comes the interesting part: They want to have the internet connection available in an upstairs apartment as well as being able to connect another separate Vonage router from a separate number/account upstairs as well. Is there a way to set it up with a Linksys WRT54G so that it flows like this: Wall jack ---> DSL Modem ---> WRT54G ---<= (2) Vonage routers (with computers connected through each) ??? Is there a different way? |

You should be able to do this. Leave the downstairs connections wired, as they are now. Use a wireless access point upstairs to connect through the WRT54G, and hook a Vonage router/adapter to it to service the upstairs phone and computer. |

Wonderful! Should there be any sort of port forwarding necessary or can I just plug everything in and go? |

With luck, it should be plug and go (famous last words). Port forwarding is not normally necessary. Of course, you'll want to make sure that their DSL is giving them enough bandwidth to support two Vonage lines. Another issue that I can think of is QoS. With this setup, you'll probably want to set QoS in the WRT54G to favor phone traffic. Unfortunately, when you favor the upstairs router to take care of that phone, you also favor the computer at that end. The user upstairs may have to be discreet in the use of uplink bandwidth on his/her computer. |

This is a similar setup to the one I use at my house.
My internet connection is upstairs with a wireless router and I live in the basement,
It is not perfect mainly due to the excessive wireless interference in my area but it works pretty good with my new N router. I use a D-Link DWL-G810 for an ethernet to wireless bridge and connect that into my Vonage router in the basement. The only issue is the lack of support for WPA and the occasional wireless interference.
Overall it works pretty good. I used to have a lot of issues due to the poor signal but since I got my new Belkin N1 router it has been working great (3 floors down).
