Hi I am in Germany and I just received my Vonage modem. My ISP is TKS and my service is dsl 1000,"download 1024kbits/s ... upload 128kbits/s". I have the MicroLink ADSL Fun LAN modem. The Vonage device I have is the VT 2142 and I am running off windows xp. I have everything connected correctly however my light is still blinking and there is no dial tone to the phone. What am I doing wrong? I had a friend who had the same problem and hers still isnt working. I tried to call tech support but the number isnt in service. Can someone help me please?

* make sure all cables are connected properly
*how long was the light blinking?
*DSL modem--> vt 2142 --> phone & PC?

suggestion
*power down everything & start(turn on) the DSL modem first, wait til its lights are steady. next do the motorola vt2142. wait for lights to be STEADY solid before you connect the phone..

lights to be green/steady:
power, ethernet, internet, phone one.

please notify results.

Assuming that you can't access the internet, does your DSL service require any special setups- password, PPPoe, that sort of thing? The VT2142 is set up by default to handle everything by DHCP on both the LAN and WAN side. The settings often have to be changed to be compatible with DSL. Basically, the idea is then to make the WAN side of the VT2142 compatible with the required DSL settings, and make your computer compatible with the LAN side settings of the VT2142.

If that's your situation, start by looking at the network settings on a computer that's working OK with your service. Write everything down and don't change anything until you're comfortable that you'll be able to get back to where you started if necessary. Then change the computer to get its address dynamically (using DHCP). Plug your computer into the LAN port on the VT2142. Re-boot everything, open your browser, and go to http://192.168.15.1 . The admin page for the VT should come up. Log in using router for both the user and password. You should now be able to set the WAN side of the VT2142 to match the DSL settings that are currently being used by your computer to access the service. Reboot everything, and you should be good to go. When booting up, remember, modem first, wait, then VT2142, wait, then computer.

Again Steve48 has a great answer.

If your are DSL you most likely need to configure the router for a PPPoE connection (Assuming your Internet is not working). In other words, you probably need to enter your DSL username and password into the router so it can connect to your ISP.

The message you are getting somewhat indicates that your Internet is working but your phone is not registering. If this is the case you should contact Vonage and make sure there is a line assigned to your device (You can also do this on your web account under Add-Ons --> Move Line). Assuming that is correct I would contact Vonage to do a reset of the Voice portion of the adapter (user:tivonpw) is usually the login to gain access.
