Is it just me or is anyone else tired of playing the guessing game when calling an international number? Here is my two cents. If Vonage has the ability to instantly charge my account when an international call is completed, then they surely have the ability to include some sort of tool on their website to tell me the price before I dial. Example, I input the number to be dialed and the website tells me the price per minute and also includes the taxes. That is something they don't tell you either. You may call someplace for .08 a minute, but with ever minute you talk you also incur more taxes. So really your .08 ends up being more like .10 a minute. |

Not sure what guessing game you are talking about, Vonage tells you what the rates are here is the site:
International Rates
You pick your country you are calling from and where you want to call. Of course they say what the rate is before taxes, every state and province has different rates.
I find the rates to be competitive, a call to Japan from Canada at 8 cents a minute and also taxes.
I called from Budapest to Canada from the hotel it was $6.00 american a minute! I can call Budapest at 10 cents a minute plus taxes with Vonage. |

The only guessing game I know of is calling countries with multiple rates. However, as roscopco pointed out the rates are listed on the website. It's even in the banner on the front page. (International rates)
As far as the taxes go. I know mine are fairly minimal, but I do know that there are variances depending on the" jurisdiction in which the service is provided." I suppose Vonage could personalize a tool within your dashboard, but under many circumstances I think we are dealing with pocket change. |

I guess I should have been more specific. Because for most countries, the rates are much more expensive to call a cell phone for example. That was my main point. If you are trying to do business with people from overseas and they have limited english, its hard to ask oh so is that number a cellular or a landline phone? So that was my point. And like I said, vonage could easily include a tool in the dashboard that could tell you instantly the charges for the number you want to dial. Instead of me wading through all the codes. For example. I called a Mexican cell phone and according to the international rate page on the vonage website, the area code I was calling was .08/minute. Nowhere does it give a rate for Mexico Cellular, it is all just by city and area codes. So it did not say that it was extra to call a cellular in that area code. But I was charged .12/minute plus taxes. And you make a good point saying we are talking about pocket change, and I agree. But its the principal for me. They could include a tool to eliminate all the guess work when dialing international, but they don't, I suppose to make some extra money. |

0.12 for Mexican cellular - thanks for the info. I haven't had to call since I got vonage, but am glad you posted the amount (I thought that with the new caller-pays system there that the cell phone rates would be higher - just wasn't sure how much higher they'd be). |

Thank you!!! You illustrate my point exactly. You didn't know what the rate was, but with a simple tool on the vonage website, you would have known. Because as I am sure you have noticed, the vonage international rate page doesn't show 0.12 for Mexican Cellular. And in some cases you can not be sure what kind of phone you are calling, cellular or landline. But with a simple tool, all of the guesswork is gone. |
