PostPosted: Thu Dec 14, 2006 1:07 am    Post subject: Turn Off Wireless on WRTP54G Reply with quote Back to top

I have a weird setup and was wondering if I can do something about it...

- First I have cable into my SURFboard modem.
- Then I have a wireless linksys router (WRT54G) connected to the modem.
- Then I have my Voip Linksys wireless router (another WRTP54G) wired to my linksys router.
- Then I have my phone wired to my Voip Linksys wireless router (yes wired to it, not wireless)

So, I find this a bit silly... it seems redundant to me but maybe I'm missing something.

Why do I need wireless to be enabled on the Voip linksys router? I've turned it off and I still can talk on the phone and use my other router for wireless internet. I'm not breaking anything, am I?

So the second question is, now that I turned off wireless on the WRTP54G, I can't get to 192.168.15.1. I'm assuming because I turned it off (duh), but how do I turn it back on if I need to for some reason?

I have the exact same configuration (Modem -> WRT54G -> WRTP54G). You can turn off the wireless on the WRTP54G without any problems - mine's been turned off for over a year now.

To turn wireless off in the WRTP54G, go into the "Wireless" page and set the wireless mode to "Disabled". To turn it back on, go in and turn it to "Both".

I also have a detailed guide for setting up a WRTP54G behind a WRT54GL (the Linux version of the WRT54G) running aftermarket firmware. If your WRT54G is new, you probably won't be able to run the aftermarket firmware, but the setup instructions on the WRTP54G could be useful for you.

http://vonage.nmhoy.net/wrt54gl.html

One of the things the instructions above gives you is how to set up "remote administration", which will allow you to access your WRTP54G's setup screens from your WRT54G's network. You can also simply plug a computer into the WRTP54G temporarily if you need to do any setup on it.

the answer is simple

you can not get to the 192.168.15.1 because you are trying to connect wirelessly to is, if you turned it off then....in order to turn it on you would have to have a pc wired to the WRTP54G

your set up is

CM>>WRT54G>>WRTP54G>>PCs

when you make a request for the 192.168.15.1, you are making it to the WRT54G not the Vonage adapter, the Vonage adapter or any router for that matter will not allow a request for that internal page from a pc or device that is not in its DHCP, such as a computer with an IP of 192.168.15.100

that is a security feature that all routers use unless you have enable remote setup

connect a PC to one of the LAN ports on the WRTP54G and log in then and you should have no issue

if you still have an issue do an ipconfig in the command prompt and see what you IP is doa /release /renew if you know how or just restart you pc so that you can get a IP in the DHCP range of the WRTP54G which is anything from 192.168.15.100 to 192.168.15.150
