They only accept credit cards. Without understanding why you can't get a credit card, even a small secured one would work. The monthly billing is charged automatically each revolving period. Unfortunately paypal will not work.

go to www.mycard.com its a canadian company and for 39 bucks you get a prepaid mastercard load money on it and use it to pay your Vonage easy. In the states now you don't need a credit card not sure how that works yet. but something tells me it going to be automatic withdrawl from your account, much rather have them take it off my card anyways

Since you have a bank account, the simple thing to do is to get a debit card from your bank. Vonage should accept the debit card just as it would a credit card.

I would have to agree that getting a secured card would be a good idea though to start down the road of building/rebuilding your credit.

This will not work. They are not the same thing. Debit card requires a PIN entry.

UNLESS, you are talking about the Visa debit card (more of a hybrid), but I do not believe they are readily available in Canada.

Well I can't speak for Canada, but in the US mechants have the option of accepting "pin debit" or "signature debit". They are the same thing to the card holder, but the merchant pays a different fee due to pin debit carrying a lower fraud risk. Vonage at least in the US can accept and process a debit card in the same fashion as a credit card, and since the 2004 US Supreme Court ruling, banks have the ability to issue debit cards under the Visa, MasterCard, DiscoverCard or American Express brands. (I'm a technology outsourcing consultant in the financial services industry.)

As I said above, rules may be different outside the US.

Fair enough

I believe that the (visa/mastercard/american express/discover) debit cards are only in USA and Australia.

Being in the Vonage Canada forum, it does not seem to be possible to the OP with Canadian banking.

With USA banking, yes a visa (or other branded) debit card should and likely would work with Vonage.

However to blanket say they are the same thing to the card holder is not entirely accurate. (Even if you are a technology outsourcing consultant.) Wink

Have you tried to sign up with an electronic check? Here's a clip from the Vonage help FAQs.

[/quote]What's new?

Vonage now offers you the flexibility of using Electronic Check Processing!

What does ECP stand for?

ECP stands for Electronic Check Processing

What does this mean for me?

Electronic Check Processing empowers you with more flexible payment options
You no longer need a credit or debit card
How do I change my payment information?

To start using electronic check processing:

Log into your web account (Note: New Customers will see the "Checking Account" on the Subscribe page)
Click on the "Account" link
Click on "Edit Payment Information"
Select "Checking Account" and enter the required information.

Of course laws may vary in CA, but they DO offer the service in the US so if it's not in CA yet, it probably will be soon.

Why not get a PayPal credit card?

It's a full-fledged Mastercard that draws from your cash balance like a debit card.

ShelChgo, banking in Canada is different than in the USA.. we do not have check cards, or pin-less debit cards, or E-Checks..

but, to the OP, there are pre-paid credit cards avail that you could get, you'd just have to make sure that you have deposited money every month ahead of your Vonage bill date..
here's a link to moneymart.ca 's prepaid M/C.. http://www.moneymart.ca/titaniumcards/prepaid_mastercard.asp
