Hi, guys - I've done some searching and can't find this issue in the forums already. A few days ago, the "ETHERNET" lights on my RTP300 began to just go out, and both my computers will report their Ethernet cables have been disconnected. I'll repeat for you what I told Vonage: First Message:
| Quote: | | The "Network" ports on the RTP300 will spontaneously stop working. When this happens, both computers will display "Network cable disconnected". Most of the time I have to power off the RTP300 for several minutes before it begin working properly again. Once, it did resolve on its own. During this "outage," the "Phone 1" light does not go off, and I can still get a dial tone. There doesn't appear to be any common triggering event causing this to happen. |
They responded to this message, basically saying "Your router looks up to us. Try different cables and ports on the router." My second message states:
| Quote: | I have now had my RTP300 lose it's "switch" capability 4 or 5 times over the last couple of days. Sometimes it comes back on its own, sometimes I must power it off for a few minutes. I have tried all 4 of the ports, I have tired several different Ethernet cables. This happens to two separate computers, with 2 different brands of Ethernet cards. Both computers always lose connection (and the lights go out on the router) at the same time.
I have a 2nd router (non-Vonage), and when I put it in the place of the RTP300, even right after/during a "failure", it comes up fine, and my PCs have no problems connecting. |
I have a feeling the RTP300 is dying. Has anyone seen anything like this happen before? |

I've been using my RTP300 for approx. a year now and just started having problems as well. At first I thought my nic was bad in my docking station but the more testing I did it turns out the RTP is acting up.
Sometimes when I plug a network cable in the light will never come on, other times it appears to come on and then drops off or states that my network cable is unplugged. I've switched my setup at the house now where my RTP300 is behind a new WRT54G so it won't matter now as everything plugs into the WRT54G. Now I'm wondering if my RTP has been causing some other speed and connectivity issues I've been having...should know soon as I just brought the WRT54G online. |

try a hard reset on your rtp300... and run a test by plugging your pc to the ethernet port and a phone on the phone port... check for the ip addresses of those devices plugged in your Vonage device... those devices should have the same ip address of the rtp300 except for the last octet!!! this should work!!! |

Just forget about it. It's obvious the router is going down. Hard resetting the router is just going to restore the default factory settings, which have nothing to do with why the router is dropping connection. The RTP300 routers are garbage. Just use a different device and everything will be fine. |

7thdevil the recommendation is appreciated but I'm going to keep my current plan in place with the RTP300 behind the new WRT54G and not using any of the ports on the RTP300. I'm not quite as down on the RTP as margulis9 but I do think it has limitations and 'issues' so putting it behind a router I've set up many times at client locations without issues just makes me sleep better. Plus I can now run a custom firmware on it and tweak to my hearts content. |

I was experiencing exactly the same problem you described over the last couple of weeks. Frustrated, I posted my problem on this forum and I was able to get sound advice concluding that my RTP300 was going down. Last night I bought a PAP2 Adapter and connected it behind a Links Wireless Router WRT54G and everything is fine (both phone and internet access). You can check out my posting to get the entire details below on my posting titled "Phone Works but no internet access with RT300"
