V-Phone and Vista

Hi

Has anybody managed to get the v-phone to work under Vista?

I have tried it but the CD Drive is not recognized.

No, for the current RC (release candidate) versions of Windows Vista.However, Microsoft is still working on the production version of Vista which is due to be released at the end of 2006/beginning of 2007.

The problem seems to be with recognizing the two V-Phone partitions simultaneously. Currently, if you try to run the V-Phone on Vista, the Removable Disk partition of the V-Phone is recognized, but the V-Phone CD-ROM partition is not. As a result, the Vonage Talk softphone application does not automatically run, and if you try to launch the Vonage Talk manually, you may see it try to run (splash screen appears), but it never does. This problem has been reported to Microsoft. When the production version of Windows Vista is released, we will test the V-Phone again.

So this means that the problem is definitely with Vista and not a software incompatibility that Vonage can issue a fix for? I am surprised that such a new piece of hardware/software from Vonage wouldn't have been designed to work with the beta versions of Vista available at the time.

This problem, of a USB drive which appears to have a CD ROM partition not being recognized by Vista is also a problem for U3 USB drives. If you Google and read any U3 USB forums, you might find info relevant to the V-Phone also.

I tried the workaround, the Vphone now runs, but when ever I hit the dial button, or I get an Incoming call, The program terminates.
