What a hassle. What I thought was going to be a pleasant experience has turned into a major headache. We recently had our land line switched to Vonage and (based on what we read, saw on tv and were told) the V phone was all we needed to get started. Simple enough- great idea! Yesterday, my first day of being truly switched over, an interesting development: there are no audible rings for incoming calls! So, after about 3 hours of talking to someone 13,000 miles away, I was informed that the VPHONE does not provide for any audible incoming ring. What kind of nonsense is that? So, if I am home, which I am, and NOT sitting at the pc, I have no way of knowing if someone is trying to call me! Oh sure, the incoming pop up window appeared yesterday-today it doesn't; incoming callers hear nothing except my breathing if I am at the pc! That's lunacy! I was instructed by a Mr. Baharat Patel to 'turn the volume of my speakers up', so that I can hear some kind of incoming sound (which doesn't work as there is NO incoming sound). I thought it best to use the SIMULRING and Call Forwarding to my cell phone, so I can at least HEAR an incoming call whether I am at my pc or not: guess what? Doesn't work ALL THE TIME-only when it wants to. I decided to contact Vonage corporate in NJ and was told that I need to have a router (when I originally placed my order- I was told that since I have a wireless internet connection a router would NOT be necessary-hence all I would need 'would be the VPhone!'), and that they'll send it out immediately and then I have to ship back the VPhone. The VPhone has some nice features: the popups when they work and a few other things. Have other people experienced this lunacy? Exactly what do I need to be able to place outgoing calls and HEAR incoming phone calls ring? I have a basic VTech cordless phone: what else do I need? Many thanks for your help. Michael |
