Is there anyway to pull the SIP settings on the vonage/linksys routers and apply it to a sip capable phone or better peice of hardware.
Its just an account number just like a dsl or dialup internet connection. Users should have the right to use the service the way they want without being tied to some junky piece of hardware.
I could use a sip gateway/proxy but I would rather not have to leave my computer on just to use the phone remotely. |

Yes if you add a soft phone account (you get the soft phone settings, not the main account settings). No for a main account. |

Vonage does use straight SIP, BUT they highly frown upon users having their own SIP credentials. As far as it being a "right" to have these, Vonage's business model doesn't include it, nor do most mass-market Voip providers. Vonage is the AOL of Voip service. All of the advanced features on their adapters are hidden from users to prevent people from totally screwing up their adapters. It also is done to prevent people from sharing their SIP credentials with their friends and having 10+ people all trying to use 1 account. At the same time, this is what has made Vonage successful -- simplicity and reliability.
I do wish they did offer the SIP credentials, but at the same time, there are other providers out there who offer this (and many other features). |

Even if you could do it, it would be considered against the Terms of Service for device tampering.
If you want to use your own device you can use a softphone account or a Business Plus plan.
