Not to my knowledge. Having said that, I'm a qualified ignoramus,how could I tell for sure? I can't access the adapter's or the modem's settings.

First of all, your RCA Modem is a Docsis2.0/1.1 which makes it an efficient modem.

Follow these steps first and confirm:

1) Make sure that you have the following with your Voip Device (-Blue ethernet cable, - Yellow ethernet cable (may not be included), - the correct power adapter for your Voip device (in this case, it would be the Model: YP-038 or WRG15F-120A)_);

2) Be positively SURE that you have a solid internet connection from RCA Modem directly to PC using an ETHERNET CABLE and NOT a USB Cable--> (usb will have a flat metal tip to it); if you reply, what location are you in - geographically speaking;

3) Your RCA is a modem/router BUT you really don't want to have USB connection from RCA to your PC and then have an ETHERNET cable connected to the VTA becuz these two DO NOT communicate very well on the same device;

4) It may even pay off to NOT use your modem/router as a router but if you must - should work anyway as long as USB is NOT in play;

5) Just curious, how much do you pay for your cable internet with your ISP ((let me know if you're using AOL software (**not AIM) but Aol software like the same AOL that we all used to use when Dial up was the best thing since "Life's Bread".

6) Unplug power to everything and turn off PC while connecting the Ethernet cables;

7) Power up the rCA first and make sure that all the lights react accordingly as they should;

Cool once that's done, power up the VTA - may take a couple of minutes to register or even for the Power light to become solid;

9) DO NOT HAVE the PC connected to that modem/router while doing that;

Let me know how you make out with that and I'll try to be on to help out.

Ticketbot, thanks for your help. I think you might be right - mixing USB and Ethernet might not be the most sensible way. Unfortunately, the RCA modem only has one ethernet jack so I'm forced into using USB if I want to use it as a router.

I've bought a "proper" router so I'll wire that up today and see how I get on.

BTW - I'm in NYC and pay about $40/month for broadband, bundled with cable so its impossible to know how much I'm really paying Smile

No AOL software though.

Installed a new router (Netgear WGR614) and successfully got Vonage, the Internet, and wireless network running. It would seem that the RCA modem can't act as router for a Vonage phone adapter.

Technically the RCA isn't even considered a router. A router would consist of more than one Ethernet output. That's just your (A) typical RCA modem. It's a good up-to-date one though. That's your best bet and good move to get the router. You should be good to go. Glad to be of help. Let me know if you need anything else.

If you find yourself with a decrease in quality of service with the Voip - Log into the Netgear at 192.168.0.1 >> default username is "admin and default password is "password"

a) make sure that it's a secure wireless connection so that no can use up your bandwidth

b) try to locate the QoS for the Netgear and set port 5061, 10000, and 20000 to High Priority and keep everything else at Low Priority
