I have an issue. Every time I am on the internet doing simple browsing and using my Vonage line at the same time, I constantly get complaints from the party on the other end of the line that my voice is choppy and cutting in and out.
I tried lowering the bandwidth save months ago and it has made no difference.

Hardware layout-
Cable modem - Motorola SB5120
D-Link DI604 Router
Vonage Router - Motorola VT2442

Here are my test results

If you haven't set up QoS on the D-link to favor the VT2442, you should do that first.

I don't like the looks of that download pause. Where is your computer plugged in? If it's plugged into the VT2442 LAN, then move it to the D-link and repeat the test. If it's already on the D-link, plug it directly into the modem and repeat the test.

I have my computer plugged into the D-Link Router. The VT2442 goes from it's internet port to a port on the D-Link

I'd love to setup a "QoS on the D-link to favor the VT2442", however, I have no idea what that is or how to set it up.

EDIT: I have tried plugging my PC directly into VT2442, but then I cannot connect to internet. I try ipconfig /release and /renew and I get a 169.*.*.* address...the dreaded dead windows network address. Cannot connect to DHCP server. This VT2442 is a piece of crap. I was wanting to use it initially as my router and take the D-Link out of the equation, but the VT2422 scores a big zero where configuration is concerned. No port forwarding or Firewall, URL filtering etc. like my D-Link has...

Sorry to double post. After hooking everything back up the way it was, here are my test results again

Speed test statistics
---------------------
Download speed: 3880680 bps
Upload speed: 368488 bps
Quality of service: 50 %
Download test type: socket

Packets out of order: 0.0 %
Number of supported Voip lines: 6
Estimated MOS score: 3.7

109 on the max download pause this time..instead of over 500...I think it is a conspiracy..I have comcast and they know I use Vonage and they somehow have made my internet connection affect my Voip so I will be inclined to switch to comcast VOip....commies!

Here's the Speed Test when I run it from a different source other than here:

Speed test statistics
---------------------
Download speed: 15089376 bps
Upload speed: 369584 bps
Quality of service: 78 %
Download test type: socket
Upload test type: socket
Maximum download pause: 62 ms
Average download pause: 1 ms
Minimum round trip time to server: 22 ms
Average round trip time to server: 79 ms

Voip test statistics
--------------------
Jitter: you --> server: 3.8 ms
Jitter: server --> you: 5.0 ms
Packet loss: you --> server: 0.1 %
Packet loss: server --> you: 0.0 %
Packet discards: 0.0 %
Packets out of order: 0.0 %
Number of supported Voip lines: 6
Estimated MOS score: 3.9

A little different results but not by much. The download speed is the biggest difference...

It sounds like there are a couple of problems. First is QoS on the D-link. Unfortunately, I'm not a networking expert, so I'm not familiar with the router or its QoS (quality of service) setup, or even what its capabilities are. Unless someone else jumps in, we'll have to fall back on your user's manual. See if it says anything about how you configure it so that the VT2442 gets priority over your computer so you don't run out of bandwidth on the uplink when you're browsing.

The issue with not being able to plug into the LAN side of the VT2442 is something else. By default, it should be set up as a DHCP server for its subnet. If your computer is set to get its address dynamically, then everything should work. Since it doesn't, a reset of the VT2442 should get it right. This is assuming that you want to mess with it at all. Ordinarily, with the D-link to service the computer, you won't care about the VT2442 LAN side.

After calling Comcast and Vonage last night, both saying it was the other one's problem, Vonage had me remove my D-Link router and then try my setup without it and see if that helps. Vonage was actually very helpful. The tech called me back on my Vonage line, had me browse the net like I normally do and he noticed no sound degradation.

So, we will keep our eyes and ears on it and see how it goes from here on out. I ran another speed test just for aesthetic purposes.

Speed test statistics
---------------------
Download speed: 7952904 bps
Upload speed: 367456 bps
Quality of service: 57 %
Download test type: socket
Upload test type: socket
Maximum download pause: 70 ms
Average download pause: 2 ms
Minimum round trip time to server: 46 ms
Average round trip time to server: 96 ms

Voip test statistics
--------------------
Jitter: you --> server: 8.5 ms
Jitter: server --> you: 11.2 ms
Packet loss: you --> server: 0.0 %
Packet loss: server --> you: 0.5 %
Packet discards: 0.0 %
Packets out of order: 0.0 %
Number of supported Voip lines: 6
Estimated MOS score: 3.6

Doesn't seem to look much different.

I thought you couldn't connect to the internet when plugged directly into the VT2442?

That is correct
I simply unplugged from the D-Link and into the VT2442 and could not connect. Vonage had me REMOVE the D-Link, reset the VT2442, change some network settings on my PC which enabled me to get a DHCP, and then I could connect to internet.
