I reciently got Norton Anti-Virus 2004 and when I installed it, my Vonage phone is blinking twice. I have opened the ports on the firewall (Norton as well) and I've powercycled the modem and phone.
I contacted customer service and they refused to help me (outright refused).
Can anyone please tell me what the 2 blinks mean or if there is anyone out there with the same problem, if they fixed it, can you tell me how?
I have this setup... Internet -> Cable Modem -> Computer -> Phone (Don't tell me it doesn't work like that. It did before I installed Norton 2004. I had 2003 before and it worked fine. |

I have to assume then that you have two ethernet cards with Internet sharing enabled. Yea. It would work this way as long as any software firewall is setup to pass the appropriate ports directly to the phone adapter. Also, for quality, you would need darned fast modem, computer and NIC cards. My question is why? Yea. It can work, but supplies the worst possible bandwidth to the phone adapter. |

2 reasons.
1) I run a webcam and web server and therefore, the internal IP the box gives me is worthless.
2) I like seeing when data is being sent. You can also manipulate that data to suit your needs as nesserary.
But that wasn't my question. I know I can do it. I've been doing it for awhile now.
My question was if anyone knows a reason Norton Anti-virus is now messing it up? |

1) Good reason! That's why I have the adapter on my router, separate from my computers. Then I only need concern myself with the hardware firewall.
2) It's not NAV per se, but the software firewall (Internet protection) included with the package. You need to either disable this feature, or adjust it to forward the Voip ports.

Did both. Didn't help.
It's NAV alright. When I uninstalled NAV, it worked. Reinstalled it, it didn't.
Firewall running the whole time. |

Then NAV is somehow preventing ports talking between network connections. I'd study the manual or software to find this feature and turn it off. |

Yes... That is what I think as well...
Unfortunally, there is no such feature on NAV that is accessable to the user.
Does anyone else have any ideas on how to hack NAV to allow certain ports? |

I would say get another AV, such as, Kaspersky Anti-Virus that's what I use and I have no problem at all with my Vonage. Google it and you'll see that it is much better than Norton and McAfee. |
