I signed up for Vonage as I wanted lower phone bills. After connecting as per instructions I found the sound quality quite poor. I systematically went through the troubleshooting list, even replacing cables, moving the adaptor to the far end of the room without improvements. The Customer Service agent in India kept saying I was "clear" when I missed most of what he was talking about because of the echo and dropped words.
I was already on High Speed Internet and for another $10 a month I got extreme speed. Loved the fast connection but it did not improve my phone quality. Everyone I talked to on the phone asked if they should try again later as they could hear an echo, heard a delay. It was so annoying but I guess you get what you pay for. Trouble was that one just could not carry on a normal conversation. At best it sounded like poor quality cell phone call. At worst one had to give up and try making the call another day.
To top it off when I cancelled my Vonage service they charged me a $49.99 termination fee on my credit card. I am not saying don't buy Vonage but be aware that frustrating experiences like mine are out there.

Typical cable modem crappy ping times.

Vonage is very loud and crystal clear on all my domestic and international calls and has been for years.

However, even with highspeed cable my calls were choppy and had echo. Cable company came out, checked the lines and said that they had oversold the area - nothing they could do.

Switched to DSL which does not have the overload problems like cable and my Vonage service is clearer than any BellSouth line I've ever had.

If you had taken the time to troubleshoot with your internet provider and/or changed the settings on your Vonage setup as well as spent some time searching for this topic that has been covered about a million times on this forum - you would have a working Vonage line and had saved your disconnect money.

Sorry, we can't feel sorry for someone that does absolutely no research when a problem arises with fairly new technology that is plastered all over these message systems.

Hi,
Its very common on Voip to loose the voice its not the Voip providers issue. ISP play bigger role in it. These days there are plenty more people in India check with www.convex9.com if you can get the service from them. Legal..No Installation or Disconnection charges.
