Hello All,

I have a Motorola VT1005, behind a router. Power light on my adapter is solid green but I don't have dial tone.
I'm not able to access the Internet through the adapter and I can't get response from 192.168.102.1
Rebooting doesn't help

I had the same problem a month ago, but after a few days trying to found out what the problem was, it started working normal again by itself.

But now, the problem has returned and I can't solve it.

Please help!

id suggest you check first which of the devices are not working properly:
try this set-up

1. modem -> v t1005 -> pc ==== check for IP
2. modem -> router -> pc ==== check for IP

(worry about dial tone later, internet access must first be available)

I agree. If step 2 doesn't get you on to the internet, plug the computer directly into the modem. Also, post all the technical details listed in the sticky post at the top of the forum.

The fact that you can't log on to the adapter's admin page doesn't sound good. Is your computer plugged into the adapter LAN or into the main router? Is the computer set up for DHCP?

(Vonage Technical Support can't help since I am out of the US)

2. Your ISP name and type (cable, DSL, wireless etc)
Speedy 900 de Telefónica del Peru
(I talked with them and they said that they haven't blocked the service)

3. Upload and download speeds
900kbps/256kbps

4. Modem make and model
I don't have a modem, I'm using a ADSL Router Model Prestige 650HW-31

5. Type of Vonage adapter used ie RT31P2 or PAP2
Motorola VT1005V

6. Setup of Network ie Modem---->Vonage Adapter-->PC
Router---->Vonage Adapter-->Phone

7. Issue you are experiencing ie dropped calls, choppy audio etc
I'm not able to access the Internet through the adapter
I don't have dial tone

OK, if you plug your computer into the primary router (which one is it, by the way?) I assume you can look at its adminstrative setup. Is it enabled as a DHCP server or are you using static addressing? How about the network setup of your computer? Static or dynamic addressing?

power light solid?
try first to change your phone
if it didnt work
try to access the internet via the Vonage device
if didnt work either
try to do a loop by connecting the ethernet cable through a internet port to the PC port of the device, if the power doenst go on solid well the ports on your device might be busted
try to replace it

OK, that's probably the problem. First, make sure that you understand the settings on your computer and write down anything you need to get back to where you started before changing anything. The VT1005 by default uses dynamic addressing, so it isn't getting an address and you're not getting service through it. Also by default it is set up as a DHCP server on its LAN side and your computer won't connect through it because it's set up for static.

Change your computer to dynamic addressing and plug it into the LAN side of the VT1005. (Re-boot everything with each change.) You should now be able to access the VT1005 admin page. For its WAN setup, change it to static addressing and assign an address in the range used by your router. Now you should be able to re-boot and everything should work. If you wish, you can change your computer back to the way it was before and plug it into the router instead of the VT1005.

As an alternative, you can go to dynamic addressing on everything. Leave the VT1005 alone, but change the computer to dynamic and set the router up as a DHCP server. Leave the WAN side of the router alone.

I have tried everything, but it is still not working. My rourter is a DHCP server now and my PC is using dynamic addressing.

I guess I will have to get a new device.
