HI i just received.. my LINKSYS PAP2..phone adapter...and i would like to know some details...

I live in miami, florida but iam currently working overseas for like 2 years.and everytime i buy a prepaid phone card it cost me like 5 dollars.. and i spend about 5 cards in 1 month..and its to much..

...and i would like to konw what details are asked when i do a RETAIL ACTIVATION.. is it better if i do it online..myself.. or should i call a custumer service representive...

i dont want to give my credit card number over the phone...so i would like to know.. how long it takes for the RETAIL ACTIVATION to work..will i have service in mints or in a couple of hours..??

P.S

and another question is .. does the RETAIL ACTIVATION give you and option to also activate the TOLL FREE NUMBER.. i would i have to call Vonage for that...and also.. is the toll free number asigned right away in mints.. or do i have to wait hours..?

i need to know what detaisl i have to fill out..when i do the RETAIL ACTIVATION online...

because iam working overseas...

i don thave a U.S.A phone number... because i had the service canceled.. when i came overseas...

can i still sign up with a phone number..

what are the basics.. all i need is my credit card number.. and a usa home address or what..??

i want to activate the 24.99 a month 1 month free...

OH and can someone tell me how Vonage international calls are handled... someone told me that Vonage charges you.. if if no one picks up the phone..at the destanation party...when placing international calls...

can someone clear those things up for me.thanks..

please some try to answer all the questions....

thank you

any help would be thankfull.

Hope this helps:

Retail activation - you register the Vonage device's MAC ADDRESS (also known as the WANMACID) located at the bottom of the Vonage device, there's a sticker....

It's really quick, you're just registering the device to your account.

How did you obtain the Vonage device? Through retail? Through online?
Do you have an acount already? (Just wanted to know)

Let's say you bought the device at retail. You have the device, but no account yet. You can sign up online, www.vonage.com , then click on the retail activation link. Insert the MAC ADDRESS... it'll ask for several details such as rate plan, account info, the credit card numbers.... so on, so forth.

You have a US credit card, and a US address? (not necessarily yours, but maybe you can have relatives stand in your place) Then you're good to go.

When you place international calls to the UK, Puerto Rico, Canada (as long as its landline, and it's in Vonage's list) then it's free. I personally have no information about whether "just ringing the other phone" overseas would cost you any.

I did my retail activation online, and it was working within a minute or two. It was easy and straight forward.

Yes, you can sign up for a toll-free number when you activate online, or later once you are sure your system is working the way you want it to. When you initially activate your system you will have to select a number (from almost any area code and prefix); I doubt if you can port your old number that has already been cancelled.

I've never been charged for international calls that are not answered. Of course, I haven't let it ring for any extended time before I go ahead and hang up.

Also you might want to consider the $15/month, 500 minute plan. Only the outgoing no-cost calling area calls (i.e., USA) count against your minutes. Incoming calls and calls to other Vonage numbers are unimited, as are the outgoing international calls that cost extra anyway.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

Remember also that the $15 dollar plan doesn't include free calls to the UK etc. This probably doesn't affect the OP, but is a significant difference for some people (me for example!).

and about the international.. calls .. i know they have a free 7 coountries international that you can call for free..but iam talking about other countries not listed...

some people say that Vonage charges you even if no on picks up the phone...

aslo can you see your bill online as soon as you make a phone call..

I suppose you can put down any address, but it would probably be a good idea to use a good address (i.e., friend, relative). Be carefull about the 911 feature. It wants an address, and we dummied one up for a friend that is using the service from Japan.

Yes, when you sign up online you can choose your area code and, in many cases, the prefix.

As I mentioned before, I haven't ever been charged for international calls when no one answers. However, you will be able to see your charges online right after you finish the call (or at least within a minute or so).

You are correct, the best ooption is to NOT use 911. However, when I activated my system I still had to select and complete some 911 information. When using it while travelling I used an address that would not forward to a "real" dispatch center, but forward to their operators. You can get more detail from the service agreement and their help files. Then you can try to "game" the system to fit your circumstances.

Good luck

You will have to use the correct billing address for your credit card, however. The charge will not validate if the billing address doesn't match.
