hey how can i take the sip account out of my box... like i want to use it on my asterisk pbx but i dont want to use the Vonage box..

You have to buy the second line for soft phone line to get SIP info.

That's fine, but the Softphone is limited to just 500 min/mo, which sort of hamstrings any Asterisk box. What ever happened to Vonage's promise to stop hiding customers' own SIP credentials? I've been with Vonage since the beginning, but I'm reaching my limit due to their lack of planning and horrendous support for existing customers.

Actually, I beleive that there's a more correct answer. Please check the revised Terms of Service. Apparently, we are now allowed to use other hardware! Very Happy This is despite the fact that Vonage still hasn't started willingly giving us our own SIP credentials, AFAIK. Thus, one would be required to extract one's own SIP credentials out of the Vonage adapter(s), which process could be expensive and/or time-consuming (unless you already have a hacked PAP2 or Sipura, I suppose).

do you know approximately where it is listed in the terms of service..
i really dont want to read all of that legal stuff if i can just jump to 1 particular area

Various places, including section 2.7(b).

I don't think that reserving the right to prohibit is quite the same as actually exercising the right to prohibit. Also, the firmware comes with the device from Linksys. Vonage just disables access to firmware that's already there with their secret password. Vonage's so-called contribution seems to be merely data. I hadn't noticed the extra rights for Business Plus Customers before. I'll have to compare that with the competition.
