Post subject: Oui!
Anyone working for
Vonage
wants to comment this?

Post subject: Language Barriers
Vonage

I agree with you, these are some short comings of
Vonage
. However, I'll bet when they decided to offer Voice Over IP last year to Canada (not very long ago), they probably thought of a lot, but never thought of some of these things because our Canadian phone system works slightly different than the American system. They are learning this now, but it costs a fortune to upgrade their equipment, and to change the way calls are routed. They would not want to route their American customers (which they have many more of), through one of our Canadian 800 servers and then have them in the same situation. I'm sure they are trying to determine a way around this, and soon they will have something. I got through to Bell Mobility by calling a 416-674-2233 number in Toronto. It is printed right on your Bell Mobility bill - first page above the picture of the scissors. Most companies have a direct number that you can call, but sometimes they can be harder to find. If you have a cell phone, you could call 611. Remember that calls to 611 are toll free and do not gobble up your cell phone minutes.
I don't think that
Vonage
is slighting us at all. Most of the US
Voip
companies are not even available here in Canada. VoicePulse is not here, AT&T CallVantage is not here, and a host of others. I give
Vonage
credit for bringing us this service and stirring the pot. I'll bet Videotron nor Bell would not be offering
Voip
if it weren't for
Vonage
. Think about it!
Most people in the US and Canada are English. The US has many more Spanish speaking people than Canada has French. Yet I don't see Spanish on the American website. Technical terminology is almost always in English. I do computer programming, and French is often interrupted with English words while we are at meetings because there are no French equivalent. Most people resort to English because it is easier, and more understood by everybody. I give credit to
Vonage
for at least providing you with a French web page. I would imagine that it cost money to create that and have it updated all of the time with changes. As well, it would cost a great deal to employ people who speak French on the help desk. For that matter, Canada is becoming a Chinese mecca. Eventually we may all have to start speaking Chinese!
I don't think languages should be an issue. I like to speak English because more people will understand what I'm saying, regardless of whether they are in the US or Canada, or even in England. It's fine to complain to Canadian companies about this, but I don't think we should be showing American companies how childish we are over language when we can almost all understand English. I live in Quebec myself, but I realize I'm surrounded by English on the east, west, north, and especially the south. I'm not going to fight a losing battle with a company forcing them to speak a language that is foreign to them. How would you like it if you offered a service and many in Japan wanted to buy from you, so you offered the service to them, and then had a swarm of people complaining that you weren't speaking Japanese to them?!?

Bonjour à tous,
Je confirme que
Vonage
doit utiliser le français aussi, cela nous rendrais bien service.
Je suis d'autant plus d'accord avec ahamel, que je n'aime pas la béchamel( la sauce blanche)et que mes prouesses "langagières" sont inexistantes.
Sérieusement: peut-on utiliser
Vonage
en Europe?

PS: le gif de ma signature ne semble pas fonctionner....dommage!

That's a great idea dconnor! That way we won't have French mixed with English all over the forum. It will be one language or the other.
Smart!

Cultural diversity is like bio diversity. It's not an option. It's a must for mankind to grow. Apartheid is not a solution. It's a problem.
That is fine and dandy if you are bilingual, but realistically, you cannot snap your fingers and presto - you know two languages. I believe that dconnor had a good idea by offering the French forum.
