Hi all, I'm currently use the Linksys WRT54G and I'm looking to use Vonage for phone service and I want to know if I get the phone adapter from Vonage (V2142 or VTA) will it work behind my router or I have to get a new router with Vonage adapter built in? And if it work behind my router is there any special setting I have to do on my router?

Thank You
DT

I would buy a regular adapter, non-router, like the ole PAP2 or such, and connect it behind your WRT. There are many diagrams floating around this site of that setup. All you should have to do is ensure that DHCP is enabled in the WRT, and just connect the phone adapter to any ethernet port. Doing this will allow you to be able to control what applications/PC's get what bandwidth, such as giving Bitorrent or online gaming preference over Voip. I would NOT put any phone adapter in front of the WRT, because then your entire home network is at the mercy of that device, which we've seen are less than worthy as real routing devices.

well your router will work with the Vonage device, I think there will be no problems when you installed the Vonage device behind the router
just follow the plug and play steps in installing the device

hope this helps!

i dont think so...
as far as i conncern,
you can plug any type of the Vonage device
behind an existing router.
raijenskins is right,
it's like a plug 'n play device..
if this dont work, the only problem is with the configuration of the existing router, then configure it...it's not that hard dude!!! Wink

I have the Linksys router you wrote about and I am using cable internet and the Motorola Vonage adaptor.

I am having no problems using this set up. I think the directions are wrong in the phamplet though.

Here is how I have it set up:

cable into the cable modem
cord going from cable modem to Vonage adaptor
cord from Vonage adaptor to Linksys router

Thank you all, the reason I'm asking is because my brother using AT&T and he has problem connect the adapter behind the router. As soon as he plug the adapter in to the modem every thing woking fine, but that open your adapter to every one then. That why he end up get the router with the adapter build in.

Thank You
