Im just wondering if it is possible to use my Vonage phone through a router.

setup would be:

cable modem -> Dlink DL524 -> VT1005V.



what steps would i take?

yup it is possible
check first if your d-link router has a firewall,
because if the router's firewall is enabled, the Vonage phone will not work
after that just follow the steps in installing the device

yes it will work.
even placing the Vonage VT1005V first (directly on the modem),
it will be fine! but still you need to configure it... Wink

well i get a dial tone, and i can call in and out but people on the other end can only barely make out what im saying. they say only 1/2 the sentence ever gets through. I can hear them clearly though.


how do i find the ip address of my VT1005V?

to find the ip address of the MTA is by connecting a computer to the device,
then perform ipconfig on the command prompt
type in ipconfig /all
and then it will give you the ip address of the MTA

i found the IP right after the post and opened the dmz, as well as forwarding all the required UDP ports.

still, i can hear everyone clearly, but only 1/2 my words are getting through

It's a choppy audio issue
in this case,
you need to adjust the jitter level of your Vonage device.

all you have to do is to call Vonage Tech Support and ask them
to do this for you. Then, follow their steps... if they ask you to reboot the network then do...!

My setup is: DSL modem -> VT1005V -> DL524

I only use the D-Link as a wireless AP, I don't really use any of it's router functions. Those are handled in the Vonage adapter and DSL modem. I'm not sure what functions or setting you want to adjust, but you can explore the configuration pages by going to 192.168.0.1 with your browser.

i was referring to the Vonage adaptor.

I discovered afterwards that the adaptor config page is locked and we are unable to access it
