I was just letting everyone know that the law firm was willing to settle for 40 cents on the dollar so I took the deal. I feel bad for those suckers that ponied up the $$$ up front.

You can call me "immoral" or "unethical" all you want, but the bottom line is that we had a second chance so i took it by not paying up front. I fault Vonage for allowing the loophole to happen. Do you feel bad when companies set up head quarters in bermuda to reduce their taxes (think Accenture). Its just gaming the system.

Id like to know whether or not the law firm is going after the rest of the deadbeats.

People signed an agreement with the broker. the broker has been made whole by Vonage paying the debt... end of story?

If a bunch of people owe a credit card some money... someone else could pay off the debts. but then they can't (legally) come after those people they just covered their debts. They may bully the group ad infinitum threatening to sue. and I guess they could actually sue... but if they ever did sue / go to arbitration, there's no contract between those nice people that paid off the debt and the debters. sure the credit card company can hire a collection company but this is not the case?

Tax season is coming. the Vonage trade would have created a capital loss and there'll be a 1099B coming in the mail? If you haven't paid for the stock, would you take the loss on your 1040? Would you include a note in the return saying you didn't take the loss because you are disputing it? Or just ignore it. The IRS will get their copy, check social security numbers and say you didn't take the loss? But that would potentially result in lower taxes? (but they don't get the basis, only the sale, so they don't know how the sale would affect taxes to know to ignore it. so then you ahve to explain to them later?

Has anyone heard more about their unpaid stock? Is it a dead issue?

Are the attempts to collect from people that didn't pay for their stock over? Anyone heard anything? So some people just walk away from this, saving thousands of dollars, while others paid for the loss?

For what it's worth, a friend wanted to cancel their $25 / month plan and they talked them into a 'new"? $15 / month unlimited plan (same as the 25, just $10 less. just the amount our friend said to Vonage that they'd save if the switched to cablevision).
