Post subject: If your voice terminal will not acquire an IP address ...
... I may have the answer!
When I signed up for
voip
service, I was shipped out a vt1000 terminal. Unfortunately, when I connected it between my cable modem and computer, one of the lights just kept on blinking to indicate that it was trying to acquire an IP address. It never worked and I could no longer access the Internet while the voice terminal was connected.
Eventually, the tech support people decided that the terminal must be defective and sent me a new terminal. Same problem. We tried power cycling everything many times. We even tried doing a factory reset on the terminal but that still didn't clear things up and I still could not even use the Internet with the terminal connected.
NOTE: Here is the solution -- Finally, this one tech suggested that I go to the command prompt and release and renew the IP address:
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
SUCCESS: The terminal aquired the IP address almost imediately. The "Phone 1" light lit up shortly thereafter and now everthing works perfectly.
The tech I was dealing with at the end said that he had never had to try the above technique just to get the cable modem to release its IP address and had this not worked they would have tried sending me a third terminal on the chance that the second one was also defective.
Hope this helps for those with a similar problem ...
