that's the reason why i want you to manually change the name on the other hands caller id unit (phonebook). Wink

That won't work unless the other person's phone is a cellular phone. If the person who's calling from a Vonage enabled phone calls a POTS line, regardless what the other person has in their POTS telephone handset phone book entry, the name information will not be passed to the handsets caller ID like it is in the case of calls to a cellular telephone.

Believe me, I tried a thousand ways from Tuesday to try to get my POTS line caller ID to read the information from my handsets phone book. Unfortunately that's one of the disadvantages of Vonage. One that I hope they rectify in the near future, but I'm not holding my breath. Outbound caller ID with name is SO needed. It's not enough just to have the outbound caller ID number.

Now if the person using Vonage is trying to call someone using a cellular telephone, have the cellular user save the number from their cellular caller ID, putting whatever name they want to associate with that number and from then on, the cellular user will see that name when they receive a call from you, a Vonage user.
