Charleston, SC
Comcast Cable Internet
Motorola Surfboard SB5100
Motorola VT2442 used for Voip, Linksys WRT54G for wireless
Modem > Router > Vonage Motorola

Last verified functioning of the phone was on Wednesday, Nov 22 around 8pm. Since then, we've received voicemails, but I can't gurantee the phone has rang and we've been able to receive a call since we haven't been home.

Symptoms:
Recorded message saying "vonage device cannot connect to the Vonage network"
Constant flashing red power light

Attempted solutions:
Resetting modem
Unplugging modem and leaving it for about five minutes
Connecting directly to the modem (couldn't access GUI, see below for explanation on this)

Internet works beautifully and the phone has been working up until at least Wednesday, if not yesterday.

Had issues with initial setup of the whole home network and Vonage. Had to allow the router to acquire IP by DHCP and assign static IP's to all devices hooked into router (currently, two desktops, one laptop AND the Vonage router). Something with Comcast/Vonage, but whatever it worked. Once static IP was assigned to Vonage router, could never access the GUI (and forgot the static IP assigned to it anyway) - tried to reset to factory default but still no access to Vonage GUI at 192.168.15.1

Regardless, all of a sudden, that weird voice is saying it can't connect to the Vonage network and the power light is green right after initial plug in for about fifteen seconds than switches to constant blinking red.

Any suggestions? HELP!!!!!

well one thing you can do is access the router page of the vt2442 and do a voice reset,
get a internet explorer browser and then type in the ip address which is 192.168.15.1
and it will direct you to the router page
password and username is router
then go to tools on the dashboard then at the left side there is a button that says restart,
just click it and then the device will restart its voice gateway..
hope this helps

tips Idea

most of the time,
restarting the voice gateway would take effect on the device if you'll do a soft and hard reset right after restarting the voice gateway. Make a power reset by turning off the devices for 2 to 3 mins. and turn them back on in order:
for example: modem>wait... >von>wait...>comp

Eek Eek Eek

Thanks for the suggestions!

Unfortunately, part of my problem is I can't even access the Vonage GUI at 192.168.15.1 to do the voice gateway reset.

I think part of the problem is that I gave it the static IP address then forgot what I gave it. When I do an IP scan on my network, nothing else shows up active except the cable modem and the laptop.

Even when I hook the Vonage router directly into the cable modem and then hard wire the laptop into the Vonage router, I get no connection to it.

Maybe I need to reset it to factory defaults? Anyone know how to do it. If I could just get into the modem, it might help.

Also, I will have to try a hard reset of everything when I get home (at work now, phone still not working *grr*). I hadn't done that last night because I didn't want to take a chance and screw with the Internet, since it was the place I was going for help.

nope dheiy

kallure what you can do is unplug the Vonage device from the cable modem and connect the computer to the ethernet port of the device
then try accessing the ip address
then go to tools and at the left side there is restore factory defaults
just click on that

hope this helps!

if your not getting info on the ipconfig,
better check the cable that you used.
if the cable is good.
make a hard reset first and make sure that the Vonage box is on.
restart you comp.if there's still no connection on the router,
check the LAN connection of the comp.Make sure that the TCP/IP properties of this is set to Obtain IP Address Automatically, as well with the DNS.

Please post the result.
