That's not too good at all.
I just cancelled my Vonage service after a year and ported my number to Shaw Digital Phone which recently became available in my area.
I tried to love Vonage and they tried to love me back but the relationship was just not working out. Too many little problems and not so little problems. When it works it's great which is about 80% of the time. That was just not good enough and I got tired of the hassles of trying to troubleshoot and constantly phoning their tech support or my ISP's tech support which didn't or couldn't give me any answers most of the time. Always ended up being a finger pointing exercise.
I'm sure Shaw want's it this way to get people to use their phone service which is what I was ultimately forced to do.
I'd use Primus Talkbroadband but they don't offer number portability in my area yet. It sounds like that is a better service these days if your located in Canada. It's cheaper too! |

Yeah a friend of mine has Primus and they never have these problems. The 705 area code is not available yet though. My brother in-law has Vonage and never has these problems either. He is in a different area code. Not sure if that is the difference or not.
Our phone has not rang in over 24 hours. Usually we can't get it to stop.
Vonage tech says they are working on the problem, but I will not wait forever. |

I have been experiencing all of the same issues posted earlier. Fast busy signal during peak times and even off peak times. I am with rogers and have gotten a new modem from them and a new Vonage router but still the same issue. I am located in mississauga but family members in burlington have never had an issue. It seems that we can not go 10 days without having to call into tech support. We were able to port our number from bell to Vonage, can I port my number back to bell or rogers if i decide to switch? spending hours on the phone with Vonage tech support is becoming more of a hassle then the money im saving. |

Yes, you can port your # over to Rogers. Probably takes about 10 days. You might want to consider Primus Talkbroadband which is a LOT cheaper albeit still Voice over Internet. |

In in Cambridge (519) and am having this same problem.
A number of time now I can make outbound calls with no problem but people just get a fast busy if they try to call me. This is the first real problem I have had and have been with Vonage a year now.
This has to be fixed! |

Well I posted a reply on another thread(caller id not working) I personally am giving up on Vonage .At first I was not told that if I dropped my bell phone service (the whole reason to get Vonage to save $) that i would also lose my internet as well.About 10 days later I got rehooked up with sympatico Now that was a good start. The call quality is BAD, the echo is BAD (but it is my equipments fault according to Vonage) now the caller id is BAD, I get lousy sound quality. I have had to screw around with my connection setup messed up my computer the list goes on and on I am going back to bell( not that I want to) But at least the services I pay for I get. And when someone calls me I get the call without the echo... echo...echo... BEST WISHES TO ALL YOU Vonage FISHES!! |

I just dumped Vonage. 1 year was enough. It was ok when it worked half decently which was only 80% of the time. Sounds high but for a phone service it's not!
Lot's of little problems and when I add up all the time I spent on hold with support and messing around with my home network, cross shipping replacement equipment etc. it was just not worth it.
I'm on Shaw Digital phone now and it's like night and day. SDP just works, like a phone should. With their lite plan and the amount of long distance I use it will come out to about the same cost so it was a no brainer once SDP started up in my area.
Had all sorts of problems shutting down my Vonage account. Vonage customers couldn't call me anymore once I ported my numbers. 2 weeks and several more support calls later we finally got that worked out. And they say they want me back. Yea, right! They cannot even disconnect me properly!
