Chainsaw
Hi All,
I have a WRT54GL in front of my Vonage router. everything is fine.
3 PC win XPsp2.

I have one Desktop Wired PC connected to the WRT54GL and 2 wireless Laptops, everything works perfect.

Now If I try to take one of my wireless PC (Laptop) and Hard connect it to the router to do faster file transfer for instance with my Hard wired PC Desktop, I can start the copy and suddently my desktop will LOOSE connection to the router. (I then, need to disable and re-enable the ethernet board to get the connection again to the router). this happen everytime !!!

I change router, I changes Ethernet adapter, I turned off firewall and so on. I have DHCP on each machine and My router is the DHCP server.

Any idea? I have only one DVD burner on my desktop and I wan to trasnfer laptop files t it for backup, and 100bT is better thant 54mbps... to transfer files...

one idea that comes to mind is that the laptop might still have it's wifi on and therefore, it is trying to get 2 connections (1 wifi and 1 wired) and it could be causing problems. I would do the following.

1. Disable the wifi (i.e. turn it off)
2. Release the ip address on the laptop.
3. Now wire it up.
4. Renew the ip address on the laptop.

This should work.

Hi
the laptop has wireless disable.

I did release, flsuh dns and all that jazz.

I am trying to connect the laptop to the wrt54gl router, this work fine the laptop got his IP adress given by the router DHCP server, but the desktop laptop is then loosing his connection. I have setup a fix DHCP for the desktop PC to be sure he always has the same IP adress.

Still can't figure this out...

to help with troubleshooting, post the ip addresses of your desktop and the laptop when they are both connected by ethernet.

Another thought, do they by any chance have the same computer name? In other words, each computer has a mac address, an ip address, and a computer name. Make sure that all 3 are different for both the laptop and desktop. I am guessing that there is a conflict with at least one of those 3.

hi
They both have different IP adress, different MAC Adress, and different machine name.
IP 192.168.1.xxx mac adress xxxx machine name X
IP 192.168.1.yyy mac adress yyy machine name Y

I am a Software designer, designing network product and database, so I "think" my knowlwedge is good on this kind of issues. I don't think that anything is wrong in client config Sad

I really never experienced that before... I can get the two PC to copy files from one to the other and then the desktop is loosing netwrok connectivity to the router.
thanks.

wow. You have me stumped then. it could be anything and most likely hardware if all the configs are good. If you have a Vonage router, try to connect your two computers to it and see if your desktop still have connectivity issues. it's worth a try.
