I am in SC, USA with Timewarner cable and things have gotten real bad the past few weeks with Vonage. Use the RTP300 and starting to think the problem might be on the end of Vonage. Takes about 20-30 secs to get a dial tone on the phone after turning it on. Also when someone calls the first ring is extremely long and after picking up it takes about the same amount of as the dial tone to connect with the call. Any ideas?

When you say it takes 20-30 seconds to get a dial tone when 'turning it on' what exactly do you mean? What are you turning on? The phone or the adapter? It's normal for the adapter to take a few minutes to boot up, acquire an IP address, and initiate service with the Vonage proxy. But you're probably referring to the phone. In this case, sounds like an adapter issue. When you pick up the phone for a dial tone, there is no communication with the Vonage network until you finish entering the desired phone number. It's the adapter itself providing the dial tone.

Your speed tests look fine.

Have you tried another adapter? Please provide all the details in the sticky at:

I do mean the phone. I have no tried another adapter because that would mean myself having to purchase one.

1. SC, USA
2. TimeWarner
4. Motorola SB4100 cable modem
5. RTP300 Adapter
6. Network: Cable Modem -> RTP300 Adapter -> PC

The rest of the information I have already posted. What happens is if for instance you do not wait for the dial tone to come up before dialing all I will get is a busy signal and when answering the phone it makes it hard to figure out if the person is still there when you have to wait for the call to connect.

I agree with Webfors- it's probably the RTP300. If you have a cooperative friend with broadband service- preferably well removed from your own- it would be good to take the adapter to his/her place and see how it works with that service. I assume that you've already tried re-booting everything. That's always the first step.
