From the Vonage TOS:
2.11 Number Transfer on Service Disconnection. Upon the disconnection of your Service, we may, in our sole and absolute discretion, release to your new service provider the telephone number that you ported (transferred or moved over) to us from your previous service provider and used in connection with your Service if:
* such new service provider is able to accept such number; * your account has been properly disconnected; * your account is completely current, including payment for all charges and applicable disconnection fees; and * you request the transfer upon disconnecting your account.
Has anyone ever been unable to or had issues in porting your number back to your original service provider (if you decided to close your Vonage account?) I am interested in porting my cellular number over from Cingular Wireless but am concerned if I ever decide to leave Vonage in the future; I may have trouble "porting out" my number. |

tr23,
you can actually port your number to another company anytime if they can accept your number...Just contact them and they will be the one to contact Vonage to port your number over to them...porting a number is a company to company transaction...they just need your Letter of Authorization to make it legal... |

I cancelled my Vonage account because they never ported my number from AT&T after two months and several "help" calls and some emails. Then my friends who have Vonage became unable to call me on my original unported number which was never moved from AT&T.
I requested in an email that Vonage release or reroute my number (mine, not theirs) but so far, I've been unable to get their attention or any action.
This is typical of every contact I had with Vonage in the two months I endured them. |

I have been trying for over a week to get Vonage to release my phone number back to my original phone service. They claim that they have done everything correctly, but my new service says that they have not completed the transfer - something about concur the number. I don't know what that means, and the customer service reps don't know either. I don't know where else to turn. Any ideas? |

try email your issue to portout@vonage.com and see what they have to say. If you don't understand their response, post it here (i suggest removing any account numbres or anything first tho) |

Try 1st to contact your new carrier and ask them for the eLOA ID number(if they really submitted your LOA) , then call Vonage help and provide them with that number, ask the agent you will speak with to search for your request using this ID number, don't forget to disconnect your Vonage account once your number successfully ported out to the new carrier |

I ported two numbers from qwest to vonage---no problem there. 18 months later I am trying to port same numbers to broadvoice--- first number ported in three days (02/18/07), second number has not ported as of today. Keep getting wrong address reply from broadvoice, even thought all account information was the same when numbers first ported into Vonage, I am on my 5th number port attempt changing records of service address back to info from qwest. Vonage and all others deal with third party carrier to complete transfers but I am not able to see what information Vonage has other what they tell me ie billing / service same as web site. the above of course was accompanied by countless phone calls and email messages. so whats the next step ??? |

I successfully ported by Vonage number (originally assigned to me by Vonage) to AT&T CallVantage. The entire process took just a few weeks.
But once I got to AT&T, I found their service so difficult to use that I am in the process of porting the same number back to Vonage.
What makes AT&T difficult?
Every time your phone adapter reboots or looses network, you will be forced to listen (and respond) to a recorded message from AT&T to verify you haven't moved the device to a new location BEFORE they will put your call through.
The rollover feature where an incoming call can be routed to multiple lines at once requires you to press "1" to receive the call at any phone where you answer the call.
The rollover feature where incoming calls can be routed to multiple lines in sequence requires you to press "1" to receive the call at any phone where you answer the call.
When you configure the rollover feature to search in sequence, you can record your own voice greeting that all callers will hear alerting them that AT&T is locating you. AT&T appends their own greeting to your custom greeting telling the caller that they can press "1" at any time to leave you voicemail.
There is no way to disable AT&T's voicemail. |

I have Vonage, CallVantage, and CrapRocket right now. I don't think CV is difficult to use at all. In fact the voice quality is just as good as Vonage and a lot fewer outage problems. Everything you noted about CV is correct, but I don't think those features make it difficult to use.
SunRocket (CrapRocket to me) is the worst voice quality I have ever experienced.
But in any case, if you don't like CV's features, Vonage is a good alternative. I just wish the legal battles would end and they get profitable. Both situations make me nervous over Vonage. |
